Stupidest play call in the history of the NFL

If by ballsy you mean: "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory while squandering the talents of an All Pro running back who coincidentally excels at scoring in short yardage situations", well then, I would have to concur with your assessment.

Here on the Huddle we're taught in every post-game conference and gameday thread by some folks that it's not about the play call, it's about the players executing. Shula is just peaches and cream as an OC but Cam is the problem because he doesn't execute the plays.

It's interesting to see how just about 0 people have blamed Wilson for a poor decision or terrible throw.

It was a dumb play but if it worked then we'd be calling the Patriots stupid for not calling a timeout

But that's the thing... I would say this for pretty much every team in the league but the one that Lynch is running for... No one else runs like him. You just can't make that call there for any reason.

Hearing Carroll on NFLN, I'm more and more convinced that is was the worst call ever, but it was an even worse placed ball. Once you saw the recievers get jammed up at the line, you either have to take off and hope someone gets open or throw it out of bounds... But again, that's why the play call was so bad... You dont have much room to get outside, so do you take a sack or throw it?

Carroll even just said the other rationale behind it was that if they ran and were stopped, they would have to use the timeout. So, if they pass it, they at least "stop the clock." That is awfully naive of him...
