Stupidest play call in the history of the NFL

I think the best play on that down would have been play action to lynch and have Wilson naked bootleg to the backside. With everyone selling out to stop Lynch he likely could have walked in for a touchdown. And if by chance NE sniffs it out, he just throws the ball out of bounds.

It wasn't anywhere close to the worst call in history. It wasn't even a bad call, just a bad result. Those quick hit slants are rarely picked off at the goal line and there were two more plays coming up. They could have handed it to Lynch and he puts the ball on the ground or whatever. There aren't any sure plays. Lynch also ranks 30th out of 39 backs for punching it in the end zone from the 1 yard line. Reason? Everybody in the world is expecting him to get the ball in that situation and they key on it. I think that situation called for a different play than a give up the middle.

I think it was a much bigger risk to go for the TD before halftime but that seemed to have worked out okay. Sometimes poo don't go your way and sometimes it does.

My theory:  They are so into promoting Russell Wilson, they wanted him to throw the game-winning TD pass with 20 seconds left to kickstart his legend.  I know that is dumb, but you don't justify a dumb call with brilliant logic.

if that were true he would have run it himself.

Not really.  He does not want the label of a running qb. An NFL qb is measured by TD passes.  A TD pass in the final 28 seconds of the Super bowl to win the game---priceless.  Instant legend.  If you think that thought never entered his mind, you would be mistaken.

winning is how one is measured.

It was a horrible call,  since they do have Beast Mode.

The play never really had a chance though....  Wilson stared down his guy,  was late throwing it and threw it in the one place that made an interception possible.   He threw it too high for that play,  in that tight of space.   Should have thrown it lower,  in the WRs gut,  so at least his WR is the only one that has a chance at it.

It happens... all qbs throw interceptions every now and then.  It's just weird that most of the media is overlooking it.
