Jake Delhomme was the 7th best QB in the league last year

And I love the comments to those...He is a punk, he is a loud mouth, and he is surrouned by all that talent. Also the oldie but goldie...Pennington has a noodle arm....LOVE IT.:D

YPA is huge in this league, especially, yards in the air per attempt.

Punk=Penny? Or is this paragraph talking about Rivers then Penny?

I don't particularly care for some of the things Rivers has done but unlike some peeps on here I try to separate my personal dislikes from what I think of a player's skills (i.e. you won't catch me saying Manning didn't deserve the MVP in 2004). I find it interesting that anytime something that could be interpreted as positive gets posted about Jake, the usual people show up to minimize it/bash him just because of that fact instead of looking at the merits of it on its own, but whatev. De rigueur.

CP doesn't have a great downfield arm though I think he does get criticized too much on that topic. It's another one of those media parroting things I think.

Bulger and Hass are good and their stats reflect a more on their injuries and injuries to key personnel around them more than their own skill IMO.

As always, I believe that watching the player coupled with looking at stats is probably the best way to try to analyze them.

He makes some dumbass mistakes and can't get a comeback win for jack.

Brees had a 86.8 QB rating while behind and a 95.3 QB rating in the 4th quarter. Jake had a 75.7 QB rating while behind and a 90.1 QB rating in the 4th quarter. Brees threw 22 touchdowns in the 2nd half last year. Seeing as how our QB is Delhomme, how can you ever call another QB on dumbass mistakes unless his name is Favre?

Nah...speaking of both.

Rivers was loud his first year starting...then pretty much nothing since...ESPN love to continue down that road, although they are even coming around now.

Was saying that people say that Philip is a punk, and Pennington has no arm.

You know Ill give jake the benefit of the doubt this year...but I honestly dont think I can support him if he stinks it up...I just wish we had other quarterbacks on the squad that are worth a damn...Im just getting sick and tired of us doing so well and having hope and it go crumbling all away a la last year against Arizona and 2005's debacle against seattle...

Get your facts and statistics out of here, there's no place for that here.

Phillip Rivers>Drew Brees, no contest.

But we allready knew that didn't we?

I won't disagree here but why would a Panthers fan want to brag about that?

When behind Jake had an 87.1QBR and Brees had an 86.8... Where in the hell are you getting your stats from? Jake also had a 97.8QBR in the 4th quarter and Brees a 95.3.

Looks like Jake was lowballed. So the guy who's known for 4th Q comebacks has a rating barely above the ''choke artist''? lol.

I want to see a layout where they have games in the 4th quarter with a point differential of a TD or less, because these stats aren't really very good for determining comeback performances. As you know Drew does get a lot of "catch up" yardage when teams are in prevent defenses with a solid lead at the end of a game. If I remember right Drew still only has 1 4th quarter comeback as a Saint, but I could be wrong.

It's not Drew's fault that we've had a God awful secondary the past two years, or that we had Olindo Mare and Grammatica missing kicks.

I don't think he's clutch but he's not exactly a choke artist either.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I was just saying some stats don't tell the whole story. Drew is a good qb who I feel is overrated by fans and media.

The position of QB is overrated, IMO. As long as you have a good or decent QB you can win with a good run game and a defense.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of balance, mostly cause I grew up as a Steelers fan and their philosophy seems to have worked pretty well over the years.
