Just found out I have low T

Losing weight helps a lot as well as physical activity. Go for the cream over the shots while getting into shape again. The shot is great for a week then it begins to wear off noticabley. Cream keeps you steady. The big thing to watch out for with the cream is no contact 30 minutes after applied or you can transfer it to someone else which can really mess with their system. There can be a lot of factors from heredity to stress, diet, sleep patterns, etc. Keep a detailed journal of what you've done and how you've eaten and take it to the doc. It will help figure out what you are doing wrong. I was eating terribly because of a high stress job with very little sleep. Once I fixed that my levels started returning to normal.

I've gained about 50 pounds since I've been married (11 years). I used to play basketball everyday to stay in shape but broke my ankle twice and tore my ACL so I haven't played in 6 years. Since then I try to use the elliptical for cardio but it's still too little for the amount of food I eat.

i've been getting injections for the better part of the last 3 years.

 

i took about a year off when my wife and i thought about having another baby. funny thing about getting testosterone from artificial sources, your body quits trying to create it's own and when that happens, it stops making sperm.

 

i went back on the injections when my wife got pregnant, but i have been looking at other sources for it. not that i want another baby or anything. i'm turning 45 this year so the one last year is going to be my last one.

 

also be ready to see an increase in the amount of red blood cells produced which may raise red flags at blood screenings. and then be ready for the possibility of a little more acne showing up. if levels get too high, you can have problems there.

 

there are some other things you can do to elevate T levels. many have been mentioned.

 

  • excercise will work, but the higher the intensity for shorter intervals, the better it will be.
  • better and more sleep will help. i would check into getting a cpap machine if you are having trouble sleeping.
  • eat a lot less carbs and more protein and don't worry about cutting out fat. your body needs fat much more than carbs. and don't worry about cutting down cholesterol. your body needs cholesterol to create testosterone. if you cut out carbs, you will have healthier levels of LDL,HDL, and triglycerides. you don't have to cut them out completely. check into a slow carb diet where you carb up one or two days a week and then abstain from them the rest of the week.
  • eat lots of raw almonds and brazil nuts. good amount of studies being done to show that will help raise T levels and will also help boost sex performance.
  • take omega3 and vitamin D supplements
  • i've heard that ice baths will help, but i haven't tried it and i probably won't.

i definitely recommend that you have it checked periodically if you have testosterone supplements, but the doctor will probably require it anyway. levels that are too high can cause probably more problems than low T.

I've heard that getting an artificial hormone will cause the body to stop producing it naturally. That part scares me. How often do you get a shot? Do you self inject or do you go to a doctors office?

for the first couple years i went to the doctor's office probably every two weeks. it's funny, when i first started getting the injections i was also working out a lot and doing the slow carb diet (carbs on weekends only) and my levels came back above average so they backed off to just once a month, but then eventually went back to every two weeks.

 

i do them at home now. my wife gives them to me once a week. lower dosage, more consistent. at least it's supposed to be. we forget to do it every once in a while.

 

we have to use two syringes, though. same as at the doctor's office. the liquid is pretty thick and in the smaller needle is too hard to draw out, but the needle is to big to prick with so we after we use the larger needle to draw it, we use the smaller needle to inject. it takes a while for it to all get out of the needle so be ready for that. you get the injections on the hip and they alternate from side to side to give it a chance to heal up.

 

one of the things i noticed for the first year or so is that a day or two after getting an injection i was kind of on edge a bit. since getting it more frequently but with lower doses i haven't realized that nearly as much.

 

oh, and about the unnatural part...that kind of worries me as well. that's why i'm going to be looking at using more natural methods like what i mentioned above.
