Pro Football Spot breaks down the state of Panthers' Big Uglies

I'm gonna resist the urge to say that I already believed all of that.

I'm not gonna resist it that hard, though.

The unit that finished the season is definitely stronger than the one that started it, and the only real glaring need that remains is at left tackle.

That said, the free agent tackle market is terrible.  It'll be no shock if the only two guys really worth plunking down decent money for (Dunlap and Bulaga) are both signed back to their current teams before free agency even starts.

My best hope this year is for a really good tackle to fall in round one, and honestly that's not much of a hope.

We might have to settle for a stopgap this season, which I can deal with as long as it isn't Byron Bell.

Our OL definitely played much better down the stretch, but our weakness at OT was badly exposed by the Seahawks. We were forced to run a lot of max protect passing plays and good luck getting open against that secondary if you're forced to keep pass catchers (Olsen in particular) in to help the OL.

I've often wondered what his numbers would have looked like, if he didn't have to stay back in protection.  I think he could have easily had another 200 - 300 yards, and 4 - 5 more TD's, this season.

Ahhh, the what-ifs...

anyone who thinks we can a tackle via trade, either rt or lt, needs to realize this:  ot is VERY valuable.

We don't have a lot of players we can afford to trade for a tackle of value.  It's not like

we are richly deep at any position.  And keep in mind we are still in cap hell, so other teams

will be able to offer much better deals than we can.

tldr   we ain't trading for no tackles.

One caveat...

If we found a guy who's poised to break out that wasn't well known enough to require high value, then yes it could happen.

(that's probably about as likely to happen as my parrot learning Portuguese, but technically it's possible)
