Rivera up for Coach of the Year Again

I doubt that Panthers HC Ron Rivera will get the award again this year but he is certainly deserving of the nomination.Ron took one of the worst teams in the NFL, at the begining of the season and helped mold it into a decent team, one he held together to be the only team in the NFC South to win back to back titles.

I  feel a lot of  fans don't give Ron the respect he often  deserves, hopefully this will come with time. Rivera admits he's developed as he has gained more experience being a HC.. The players not only like him, they respect the way he relates to them, since  he's a former NFL player and is capable of seeing  things that matter to them on their level.

Perhaps the easier schedule helped.....

How did ole Ron do against those winning teams in the middle of the season....

All teams over the course of a season play some teams that are easier than others, that is just the way the NFL is set up. The fact that the Panthers had the meat of their schedule early on ,before the team jelled and started playing younger players, should have no negative reflection  on the coaching ability of Ron Rivera.

rofl. Ron has nothing to do with them being one of the worst teams in the NFL for much of the season? He didn't take over halfway through. Managing to be better than the worst division in football and undeservedly making it into the playoffs with a losing record is not COY worthy.

Ron Rivera was one of the five nominated for the NFL Coach Of The Year Award,so it looks like the people that make those nomination  decisions don't agree with your viewpoint. How dare them to differ from your opinion. :)

How did he do against poor teams in the middle of the season.? About the same. With no pass defense, little pass rush and little offense to speak of we got beat by everyone and blown out by good teams. His worth was keeping everyone together and improving despite the circumstances. I don't understand why you folks can't give him any credit. I would think Panther fans would want the team and coach to succeed instead of criticizing and going out of their way to find fault. Are you sure you aren't a Falcons or saints fan.

Look, I like you but sometimes you attack people for no reason with the saints and falcons bs

I financially and with time have supported the team since their inception. I think I've earned the right to have an opinion about the coaching staff.

I think he is a very good person

I think he is a fine defensive coach

I think he is Wayne Fontes revisited

Special teams suck, not because the special teams coach is horrible, but because of injuries. Is he kidding me? Coaches jobs are to coach up the next man up.

Ron always has an excuse...it's his first year....it's injuries...it's a new GM...he can't hire great assistant coaches because who wants to come to the staff of a coach who might be fired.

Elite coaches don't have excuses. Elite coaches surround themselves and attract top notch staffs, eliminate the obvious in the DC, and who does he have on his staff that any other team would want?

I hope he proves me wrong but I suspect we will be having the exact same conversation this time next year and the year after that and the year after thar.

How was it his fault he didn't have the talent he needed on offense or defense? Many of his supposed faults are things for which he gets blamed which were largely outside of his control. Like the he can't judge talent knock which is ridiculous. When you have 3 crappy players and a rookie to choose from it isn't about evaluating talent it is trying to do the best you can and hope one of them is better than it appears while you coach up the rookie to play.

He eventually makes the right decisions, it just takes too long and it's like we have to fall on our face before he's willing to take risks. You could apply this both to personal decisions and game planning. We all thought he learned his lesson last year, but he fell right back into the same trap this year. When he has the right mindset, he's a heck of a coach - he just needs to start the season with an aggressive mentality instead of waiting until the season is almost lost.

Again, I like coach Rivera and I want to see him succeed - he has the right stuff.

So you don't think we had injuries this year to key people.? You don't think Hardy sitting out all year hurt the defense? You don't think starting a half dozen rookies will cause problems? Sometimes they aren't excuses but realities. Sometimes a coach has reasons for why things unfold like they do. And most fans can see that, while others who have already made up their mind look for things to complain about. You seem like one of those guys.

He fell into the same thing that almost all coaches fall into which is to play by the book and be somewhat conservative. Plus most defensive coaches tend to be more conservative by nature, it is often who they have been for decades. It sometimes take learning the lesson more than once to become a part of your personality when it goes against what you have done and what you are taught all, your life. At least he is willing to grow and change versus Fox for example who seemed to never change.
