And the bitching continues. It just shows you the ignorance that is rampant on this board. Everyone else knows how hard it was for Ron to do what he did with arguably the worse roster in the NFL. And yet people think we should have won 12 games or more. Truth is we had the worse roster in the division and still won it. Hats off to Rivera and his staff who turned this bunch of rookies and nobodies ( with a few stars mixed in) to a team that went toe to toe with the Super Bowl champs until we made some mistakes. The turnaround was due to the staff and Rivera's strength of will. Anyone who doesn't see that knows little about coaching and has never done it at any significant level.

Ron rivera is a slightly better version of mike mccarthy. Slow adjustments. Clock management is bad at best. Not smart enough to get rid of the special teams coach who may end up buying his ticket out of town. Ron is a former player. He has a friggin superbowl ring. Good guy by all accounts but coach of the year? Hellllll no

Good to see him get recognition from Billick, the former head coach of a Super Bowl winning team who knows orders of magnitude more about being an NFL head coach than the sum total of all the Huddlers put together.

Unless someone on this board has also coached a Super Bowl winning team, I'd suggest that you accept Ron just might know what he's doing.

Well put. I think coaching is a thankless job when you are losing and Ron had his share this year. I think he gets props for keeping the locker room together but what he also did is keep his staff focused and they were able to maintain and manage their areas. It's easy to manage when things are going well but when poo hits the fan stuff starts to unravel if your not careful. Usually it's starts at the top. That never happened. He's not perfect by any stretch but he worked through a lot of poo.

You make it sound as if I am the one making that judgement. This is what was widely recognized and reported all summer long. Start reading more and listening to the experts out there instead of thinking that the only folks who know anything are on this site and everyone else knows nothing. I watch a ton of football and read a ton more. I am just saying what I saw and read all year. Anyone who thinks this roster wasn't one of the worse particularly on offense is delusional. It is funny how everyone here says we gave Cam no weapons and then when I criticize the roster folks like you act as if we had a talented bunch and Ron didn't do much. How two faced.

i think we can probably count on several games like that a year followed by this great epiphany where he realizes that he was doing it wrong and corrects course and becomes more aggressive and helps us finish out the year strong and always puts him in the discussion for COTY.

 

"just look how he turned that team around....again!" of course they don't take into consideration that the reason it had to be turned around is that he did a 180 from where he was before.

 

the rivera formula...start off pathetically slow and play it safe resulting in frustratingly close losses then do an about face and get aggressive. when season ends and as you prepare for the next season, just chill and take it slow and easy and start the whole process all over.

We started off 2-0 this year before injuries and inconsistent play sidetracked us. But don't let the facts get in your way.

Secondly if Rivera wasn't having to start over at many positions and take UDFAs and rookies and start them it might not take so long for the team to gel. It takes time to build a roster when you have to keep mixing the pieces. He isn't doing a 180, it is simply that all the hard work pays off and by the end of the year they are playing like a complete unit only to be dismantled the following year. Give him the same pieces 2 years in a row and watch us start off much better.

Ron was ONE loss away from losing his job. Losing to ATL, tieing with Cincinnati were all because of COACHING decisions. Thank god our division was so terrible because 7-8-1 gets you 3rd place in any other division.
