comparing the Tom Landry era Cowboys to the Bill Belichick era Patriots:

Belichick has coached the Patriots to 6 Super Bowls (4-2 or 3-3 record depending on Sunday)

Tom Landry coached the Cowboys to 5 Super Bowls (2-3 record)

Tom Landry won his 20th playoff win at the end of the 1982 season, which was the most playoff wins by a coach in history until now, when Belichick got his 21th playoff win by beating the Colts in the AFCCG (although it was only Belichick's 20th playoff win with the Patriots...Belichick is 20-8 in the playoffs with the Patriots, 1-1 with the Browns. Tom Landry only coached the Cowboys, where he was 20-16 in the playoffs)

Tom Landry coached the Cowboys to 12 NFCCG appearances (5-7 record/41.7% win pct) in a 17-year span - 1 every 1.42 years during that span

Belichick coached the Patriots to 9 AFCCG appearances (6-3 record/66.7% win pct) in the last 14 years - 1 every 1.55 years during that span (and the Patriots have gone to the last 4 straight AFCCGs)

During the 12 seasons Tom Landry coached the Cowboys to the NFCCG, they were 20-10 in the playoffs (66.7% win pct), 11-4 with Roger Staubach (73.3% win pct). The rest of the time under Tom Landry, the Cowboys were 0-6 in the playoffs (0-2 with Roger Staubach)

During the 9 seasons so far Belichick has coached the Patriots to the AFCCG, they are 19-5 in the playoffs (79.2% win pct), and depending on Sunday, will be 20-5 (80.0% win pct) or 19-6 (76.0% win pct). The rest of the time under Belichick, the Patriots are 1-3 in the playoffs

Of the 12 NFCCG appearances by Tom Landry's Cowboys, he had HOF QB Roger Staubach in 6 of them (71, 72, 73, 75, 77, 78). But he also had a good QB in the other 6:

1966 - Don Meredith was a Pro Bowler that year (#3 passer rating)

1967 - Don Meredith was a Pro Bowler that year (#7 passer rating)

...

1970 - Craig Morton was #3 in the NFL in passer rating that year

...

1980 - Danny White was #9 in the NFL passer rating

1981 - Danny White was All Pro that year (#5 passer rating)

1982 - Danny White was All-Pro/Pro Bowl (#4 passer rating)

Meredith was 0-2 in the NFCCG (lost both to Vince Lombardi and QB Bart Starr)

Morton was 1-0 in the NFCCG (beat the 49ers), 0-1 in SB (lost to Johnny Unitas and the Colts)

White was 0-3 in the NFCCG

L to Eagles (who had #1 scoring D, #2 total D, #6 scoring offense, #8 total offense)

L to 49ers (HC Bill Walsh, QB Joe Montana)

L to Redskins (HC Joe Gibbs, QB Joe Theismann)

Staubach was 4-2 in the NFCCG (2-2 in the Super Bowl)

-beat 49ers, then beat Dolphins in SB (HC Don Shula, HOF QB Bob Griese)

-L to Redskins (HOF HC George Allen, who was 116-47-5 as an NFL HC and 2-time All-Pro QB Billy Kilmer and the #3 scoring D and #4 total D)

-L to Vikings (HOF HC Bud Grant, HOF QB Fran Tarkenton and the Purple People Eater DL)

-beat Rams (who had one of greatest defenses in history that yr), then lost in SB to Steelers (HC Chuck Noll, QB Terry Bradshaw)

-beat Vikings, then beat Broncos in SB (the "Orange Crush Defense")

-beat Rams (#1 D in NFL that yr), then lost in SB to Steelers (HC Chuck Noll, QB Terry Bradshaw)

Brady is 6-3 in the AFCCG, and will be 4-2 or 3-3 in SB depending on Sunday

only four QBs have won more than 2 Super Bowls: Bradshaw (4-0 in the SB), Montana (4-0 in the SB), Aikman (3-0 in the SB), Brady (4-2 or 3-3 depending on Sunday). Of those, only Montana and Aikman won a SB with two different coaches (Montana with Bill Walsh and George Seifert; Aikman with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer)

Pete Carroll is looking to become the 14th coach to win 2 or more Super Bowls. The 13 who have done are:

4 - Chuck Noll

3 (could be 4 Sunday) - Belichick

3 - Bill Walsh

3 - Joe Gibbs

-----------------

2 - Vince Lombardi

2 - Tom Landry

2 - Don Shula

2 - Bill Parcells

2 - Jimmy Johnson

2 - George Seifert

2 - Tom Coughlin

2 - Mike Shanahan

2 - Tom Flores (was 70-35 as HC of Raiders before going 13-18 his last two seasons)
