Superbowl over hyped to the point of nauseum

I don't watch network television more than 5-10 minutes a day and I haven't heard anyone talking about the Super Bowl.

I'm sure all they're talking about is the Patriots under inflated footballs and other irrelevant crap.

ESPN is useless.

Look at the NBA. The Atlanta Hawks are 38-8 with a near NBA record 18 game winning streak. They are playing incredible basketball right now. ESPN barely talks about them- they're too busy pushing LeBron, Kobe, and other crap. It's not about sports, it's about ratings and money.

Seriously, I don't believe there is any more or less Super Bowl hype than usual.  That being said, there seems to be more hate than usual.

To be honest, I am so focused on the Panthers, draft prospects and free agency that I don't even pay attention to all the hoopla. But, I will be front and center watching the Dance.

LoL @ everyone calling the Super Bowl the biggest sporting event in the world. Outside of the USA any significant soccer match is much bigger as far as the entire world is concerned.

Please tell me one single soccer match that generates the kind of press, money, and interest that the Super Bowl does.

I've often wondered if there will be another football league.  We had the AFL and NFL for a good while.  Now it seems like the NFL is about the dollar more so than the sport.  I'd like to see some competition for the NFL.  However, the NFL is so big and rich it would be very difficult for someone to break the door in.  Talk about a monopoly.

If I am not mistaken the World Cup final match has about 1 billion people watching it live on TV. The Superbowl is a bit over 100  million usually.

I also think that the Cricket championship is watched by almost 1 billion people as well.

It's hard to believe since the Superbowl is such a big deal to us but things like soccer, cricket, and formula 1 racing are 10x's as popular globally as the NFL is.

I was using what is applicable to us in America as a frame of reference. I'm sure the Cricket Championship is a wonderful event for those in New Zealand and India, but it has close to zero to do with anything we can about in our sports world.

So, yes it's the biggest sporting event in the US. But not really close to the biggest sporting event in the World.

you know... i have to admit that my team was contending for its 4th Super Bowl, or 2nd as defending Champions, i would never get tired of the hoopla for the entire two weeks leading up to the Big Game.

if it were the Panthers in the Super Bowl this year, you can bet your ass i would be reading every story and getting pumped up evermore every day.
