Hornets Looking at NBADL Assist Leader, Talton

Recommended Posts

The Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers are exploring the call-up candidacy of Gary Talton, the NBA Development League’s assists leader, league sources told RealGM. Behind 13 games of 10 or more assists, Talton has averaged 13.2 points, 10.2 assists and 40.6 percent three-point shooting this season. He has split the year with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, his current team. RealGM

i actually would be more for this, than for trading assets to bring in a stop-gap player like Sessions or Cole..

EDIT: Talton is 24 yrs old and has good size for a PG @ 6'1

Look at PJ, he was doing very well in the D-league and looks pro-ready.. Talton could be as well.. and if he doesn't move the needle- so what.. what are we really trying to accomplish here - make the playoffs as the 8th seed = best case scenario?

Talton looks like he can ball, he had a 20 point, 20 assist, 10 rebound game in the NBADL. That's unheard of at any level.

Since we have four guys that are at least going to be out a week, I'd use the hardship exception and sign this kid to a 10 day contract to see if he's an NBA caliber player. If he works out that's great, if not I'd sign A.J Price or Nate Robinson to a vet min contract for the remaineder of the season.

We could always trade Neal (since he's been playing like poo), but I'd rather hang on to his expiring contract than trade for Sessions's two year deal. I also want no part of Norris Cole, he sucks.

So hypothetically we sign Talton,

For at least this week...

PG: Roberts, Talton

SG: Henderson, Stephenson, Neal

SF: Kidd-Gilchrist, Hairston, Taylor

PF: Zeller, Vonleh

C: Jefferson, Maxiell

Injured: Walker, Pargo, Williams, Biyombo

Then beyond this week...

PG: Roberts, Talton/Price/Robinson, Pargo

SG: Henderson, Stephenson, Neal

SF: Kidd-Gilchrist, Hairston, Taylor

PF: Zeller, Williams, Vonleh

C: Biyombo, Jefferson, Maxiell.

Just a hypothetical situation.

    • This is not so much about Caleb Williams as it as about the Bears and their fans thinking they had a Super Bowl contender in the making after gloating about fleecing us in that trade. Now we're here to collect.
    • The Bears coach really just wants to say, "Listen, I'm fired. You know it, I know it, the players know it, all the fans know it. I'm just kinda pissed they didn't fire me before today so I could be enjoying turkey with my family while cheering on the Lions."
    • That's pretty close to where I'm at.  Also thinking that if we happen to need a DC or defensive assistant, I got a feeling Matt Eberflus will be available next season 😕
