Ranking the Super Bowls (NFL Article)

So... our Super Bowl vs the Patriots came in at a pretty high ranking.

I do think our Super Bowl has been one of the more entertaining ones. I know it's a painful reminder, but hey, we fared well against a team that knew our play calls.

7. Super Bowl XXXVIII - New England Patriots 32, Carolina Panthers 29

Gil Brandt's take: "The Patriots-Panthers Super Bowl had a slow first half and a great second half. Neither team could get going in the first half. But in the second, each team exchanged touchdowns and put up a lot of points. And, of course, then the Panthers kicked off and it went out of bounds ... that was a huge play."

I can still see Jake Delhomme rolling to his left and uncorking a long touchdown pass -- pure streetballin'. An exquisitely entertaining game. (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill)

Maybe it's just me but superbowls have definitely been more exciting in the past decade or so than they were in the 90s.

Maybe that's greater parity, or maybe it's the NFL realizing more exciting superbowls are better and adjusting the officiating [/tinfoil] lol.

Not sure what has caused it but the games have definitely been closer.

I recently saw that since Rams/Titans only three games have been blowouts.  During that time there have been three defenses that are frequently listed on the short list for all-time great defenses.  Those three defenses have authored the three blowouts ('00 Ravens, '02 Bucs, '14 Seahawks).

I find it funny how much the game has changed, and the value they put on explosive offensive games. Yeah its fun to watch a bunch of tds especially when your team is doing the scoring. But i guess its just me that loves watching a defensive showdown where neither offense can move the ball because the defense is playing lights out. In the description it says it was a slow first half but it was a defensive show down early on what is slow about that?

most blowouts listed low.

The 49ers just scored on the Chargers again.

and the Bears whipping the Pats was the best SB ever in my opinion.

While I get why close games are mostly listed higher, blowouts are great SBs, especially if you are a fan of the winning team. I think 38 should be top 5, but I could be bias...

The reason why I'm the Panthers fan I am today. That was the first football game I ever watched start to finish. I was hooked after that it was truly a great game. Made me a Panthers fan for live and I've lived in Northern Indiana pretty much my whole life so I'm not a homegrown fan, but I bleed black and blue nonetheless.
