Does Gettleman Send a Message to Cam This Offseason?

I don't think Getts will ignore BPA cause he's concerned about Cam's legacy.

That is some seriously stupid poo.

How about it be about getting him help so we don't always have to win one way..

We shouldn't get down by 2 Scores and not have the fire power to comeback. .

Some of you people kill me with this crap..

It's not about Cam it's about not depending on 1 players to carry a offense. . Which we've done for 4 years now..

PC You are incapable of intelligent discussion. If you don't understand, then ask or close the thread.

Cam's legacy matters to Cam. Cam's legacy matters to his handlers. This thread is about making personnel decisions to improve the offense so Cam will sign. And not just sign but sign with a small hometown discount.

If you think an improved offense and a franchise QB don't matter to Gettleman. That is some seriously stupid poo.

I dont care about " cams legacy." Just want to see the Panthers win.

But the thing is Cam's legacy is directly tied into wins. So it is by building a perennial winner by surrounding Cam with talent that we will win. The two go hand in hand in my opinion.

I never once said we shouldn't improve the talent on offense.

But you can't follow a conversation, or even

Understand what I was saying, to save your life.

We need more talent at receiver, offensive tackle, and I could easily make an case for youth at RB and TE.

I was responding to the asinine comment made about ignoring BPA to draft all offense which is stupid. It's not going to resolve the issues.

But keep beating that drum.

BPA is  nice.. but I do believe this year,  G-man needs to use his supreme talent when it comes to ,  well,  spotting talent,  and load up on offense in the draft.

BPA is more than "nice", it is really the best way to build a franchise that has sustained success.  The theory that you should fill holes in FA so that you can draft the BPA is sound. I think that you can get into all kinds of trouble when you start drafting players that you need who are obviously less skilled than someone at another position.  In some ways, it just seems counterproductive.

As for me, I may be able to be persuaded to give more weight to positions of need later on in the draft, but I would probably stick to the formula for rounds 1 through 4.  Like I alluded to, this would make free agency all that more valuable to me, so I would probably give a little more leeway to make things happen.

I understand why someone wants to give need more priority, I just don't agree with it and think that it is a bankrupt policy in the end.  The only thing that I think could go wrong with BPA is that you end up getting a wealth at certain positions to the detriment of others, and your window for championships probably won't stat open forever.  That being said, I would probably be relatively aggressive with trades.

There is no better legacy for a QB than wins. Wins can only happen with a good TEAM. Just like Brady's early years, let Cam continue to master the game with the luxury of a good winning team around him. When he it's time for him to take off, I am sure he will.

I think BPA is a myth. Gettleman has explained his draft board before. It moves vertical and horitzontal. The vertical is draft grade, the horizontal is position. This would be a rough example:

Grade

10       BLUEGOOSE TACKLE     BLUEGOOSE PASS RUSHA     BLUEGOOSE TOUCHDOWN SCOWA

9         good guard       good tight end      good safety   good corner back

And on down the list. So everyone on the first line has an equal grade of 10, does he take the offensive tackle or the defensive end? Only Gettleman knows, I say take the tackle.

Now where BPA really comes into play is when there is only 1 guy left on the horizontal row. Which may or may not happen.

Furthermore Gettleman builds positional value into his grades. Offensive tackles get a bump compared to tweener linebackers for example. We don't know his exact numbers but suffice to say, pass rushers get a nice bump.

It's been reported that Tyler Eifert, Star Lotuleiei and Kenny Vaccaro were on the same horizontal row when the Panthers chose the biggest need in Defensive Tackle Star Lotuleilei.

Jonathan Jones tweeted that Dante Moncreif did not appear on the Panthers draft board. Presumably due to off field issues or a poor interview.

I think the people stuck on the legacy comment are hung up with this notion that individual goals are somehow at the expense of the team. I could re-explain why Cam's legacy matters to the franchise and how their goals are aligned but people will still be hung up on the individuality of Cam's legacy.

There are also some people that cannot let go of this idea that drafting all offensive players will somehow result in passing on better defensive players. That isn't what this is about. It's about when you have 4 guys you feel good about at pick 25, 3 of those guys play defense, 1 of them plays offense. Pick the guy on offense. And if you have 4 free agents showing interest at the same grade. 2 play offense, 2 play defense. Pay an offensive free agent and go shop at the dollar store for defense.
