Nothing necessarily new is here, but sometimes seeing the words on paper is a little better for people to decipher, understand and believe.  Here is a sample answer in regards to the business side and drafting philosophy.

“I think that, like I said before, we’re crawling out of a hole. You’re always economic driven. The biggest thing you have to do is you’ve got to place a value on every guy. Where does he fit in the grand scheme of things? And the scales dictate where he fits. When you get into free agency, you don’t say I want Joe Schmoe and I’m going to give him X. You have to evaluate him against the players at his position so you can put the proper value on him. If you don’t, it’s like overdrafting a player…We’re getting out of the hole and we should be able to step up a little bit. The other part of the thought process is who’s on your roster and who’s coming out. In a perfect world, you don’t want to be in a position where you put all this time into a kid, especially an undrafted free agent, they’re here, and then you don’t have the money (to re-sign) them. It’s a huge puzzle.”

Sometimes I think that G-man is the most straightforward guy that you can imagine, but I also knows that he is wise enough not to show his hold hand---particularly when it comes to the specifics---lest someone use his strategy against him (like they surely could have in the case of Kelvin Benjamin).

Props to JJ. I know you read this site.

For real, though. We have seen some tough times when it comes to Charlotte sports journalism. It's awesome to have guy's like JJ, Voth and Igo. Guy's that are genuinely excited to report on our favorite teams.

Sometimes the stuff that Gettleman says seems so simple and obvious that you would think it is common knowledge within the industry.  But then you look at our history, as well as how some organizations around the league are run, and you realize how rare it is that someone actually gets it.

Often times I think the fans of well run organizations are so use to people making good decisions that they will take it for granted. For fans of an organization like ours though, that have crawled through that river of crap for so long, this is such a special time.  We are incredibly lucky to have this man making the decisions for our team.

GM has made some excellent appetizers on a shoestring budget.  I cannot wait for the main course.

Dawg, you have a point.  Who was it who said something like, "The best way to see how honest he is to the media is go back and read his comments from last year, then compare them to what happened."  He is a straight shooter, just ambiguous about it.

I feel we would have been to several Super Bowls if we had gotten Dave Gettleman as our GM several years ago. I like the approach he has taken since he's been here and look forward to more good things happening with him calling the shots as GM.

Here! Here!  Agreed.  If people understood what this man inherited, there is absolutely NO WAY we should have won more than 5 games since he arrived, We have won 20 and appeared in the playoffs twice, won the South twice--all while he has been buried by the salary cap.  It is truly one of the best stories in sports that nobody (except us) is talking about.
