Jon Beason as backup LB?

I've been a Panther fan for a long time, but I don't understand the undying love for Jon Beason. Dude had like 2 or 3 good years here, and Luke made him look like poo his last year.

He had 3 straight seasons around 140 tackles and 1 season around 120. Those are great numbers.

He's also a 2 time All-Pro selection and made the Pro Bowl 3 times.

 

Don't understand having to put down some players in order to praise another. Unless that player was you know, actually bad. This is certainly not the case. In a reserve role, which limits his snaps and opportunities for injury, he could thrive there.

If we dealt him so Kuechly could be the unquestioned MLB on the team, why in the world would we bring him back? That's not a knock on Beason, I like him a lot, but bringing back to this particular team out of the 32 makes zero sense.

Jon has a lot of business investments outside of football. Really smart with his money. I think he retires before signing as a backup somewhere.

If we sign another linebacker it should be someone versatile like Klein and Blackburn. Can play multiple positions and ST

I love Beason but let him go spend the year on someone else's injured reserve. Don't need him

Or you can draft a young kid that can play ST and still has wheels for about half that.

 

Give me youth, not someone else that has made a fortune, and has played on losing teams his entire career.
