Trading the next year's number one or another pick in that draft? I don't think he was looking to give up the next years' first again. But if he had, then that would have been the worst decision of his tenure, no doubt.

Rumor was he was waiving the 2011 first round pick in front of New England (I think).

No, he was specifically quoted at some point of saying he wasn't willing to give the first th e next yeat so he was glad we got Clausen in the 2nd without needing to trade up

Could be.  Like I said it was a rumor that I heard.  But if a trade I was pining to make didn't go through and the guy I was trying to trade up for fell to me, i sure as hell would say "Meh, I wasn't going to do it anyway" to cover my ass.

Here's the rumor:  http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/tag/_/name/marty-hurney/count/121

He’s a second-round pick with first-round talent and he was Carolina’s first pick in this draft. The Panthers were trying to trade up to early in the second round to get Clausen, but didn’t have enough ammunition to get there.

A 2011 first round pick would have been more than enough to move up 12-13 spots, so there's no way they were dangling that.  Also, rumor had it that there was no way we were going to trade our 2011 first rounder after two years with no first round pick.  Bottom line is, I believe that they made inquiries about trading up, but the price was too high and he fell to us anyway.

Excellent, nice find.

How many times do we have to reiterate that the reason we DIDNT move up to get Jimmy was because Hurney REFUSED to part with next year's first?

Look I know the guy did a terrible job, but there are plenty of things to trash him for without having to make stuff up. And supporting the Patriots for cheating just to bash on Hurney, seriously? Petty.

I heard that he was offering the first rounder to the Rams, but they obviously thought we would be picking 32nd (not first) the next year with the deadly Clausen to App State midget combo in da house.  Hurney commented that he felt like the Armanti trade was "House money"  because he tried to broker a deal with the Rams for Clausen, and Clausen fell to them anyway.  In addition, It was rumored that the Colts were faking interest in Clausen because they knew MH was in love with him, trying to force him.

That draft was all Marty-no Fox in his ear--no system to draft for-just go out and get us some football players, MH.
