Strickland on Ealy (your first off-season fluff piece).

top dawg

I am glad that he started putting things together down the stretch. I was excited when we drafted him being the homer Mizzou fan that I am, as I saw the tools of an every down DE at the next level. He made things look effortless at times, and put great presser on the QB without being flashy or really having any go to pass rush moves.

The way he is built and the type of game he will grow into, he favorably compares to Hardy/Tuck. Just needs that NFL weight training regimen to reach the strength his frame allows. Will be a power rusher which allows him to play inside and out. Very versatile.

I was initially looking at him down the road following Johnson's footsteps and being paired with Hardy...but that is looking less and less likely.

Glad he is a Panther.

I don't know...

Hardy really is an athletic freak, similar to a Julius Peppers. Not sure Ealy is in the same boat. I think he's more like a CJ than a Hardy.

Ealy and Hardy are pretty identical in terms of their measurable coming out of college. Hardy was 8 lbs heavier but Ealy is was faster in everything but the 40 (.05 seconds difference). Ealy even put up one more in the bench. Ealy might not have the genetics to develop like Hardy but he's not starting from a lower benchmark than Hardy either.

In your opinion how would his college career and talent compare to Clowney?

Well there is a reason he was taken #1. Clowney probably has the quickest first step I have seen. Just incredible.

That being said, they are very different players.

Ealy is no slouch as an athlete either and with his frame, I expect him to eventually be 290 pounds and still play at that athleticism. This will allow him to be effective inside and out. Really it is all about the weight room and learning technique then the sky is the limit. I look at him as a potential 8-12 sack guy that will be exceptional against the run as well. That's why I like the Hardy/Tuck comparison with him.

Clowney with his burst, and if he reaches his potential, can be a 15+ sack guy while being good against the run, but won't be as good as Ealy in run defense because of his build. Compare Clowney's build to NFL DE's that excel against the run and you will notice that Clowney's trunk is slimmer, yet more athletic. He needs more bulk in the legs and I don't know if he can add that due to the way he is built. Clowney could very well end up as the top pass rusher in the league however if he becomes maximizes what God has given him and can avoid the injury bug. Closest comparison for Clowney would be a bigger version of Javon Kearse.

All this of course...if your question was serious ;)

I've never seen anyone use the word 'being' three times in the same sentence. bravo to you, sir.

Being a human being, he is just being himself.

See what I did there? Not only did I use the word 3 times, the word composed 33.33% of the words in my sentence.

Sorry.  moving on.

Peppers is on a whole other level in terms of athleticism. I think Hardy has been better at maximizing his strength than Peppers has though. I believe Hardy is more compact in build as well which can give some advantage in leverage as well as a better "punch" when attacking an offensive lineman.

Ultimately, I will always believe that Peppers left some at the table...coulda, shoulda, woulda.

But in terms of elite size and athleticism at the position, over the past 13 years...no one comes close to Peppers, Mario Williams, and Clowney IMO.

Additionally, Ealy is bigger and longer than CJ.

not only did he use them in the same sentence, he used the same form of it, and all in the same clause!  He's still gotcha beat.

Haha, I love Panthers.com but 85% of their stuff is for sure fluff. On a rare occasion, such as the post-atlanta Haruki Nakamura game, you'll get some straight up reporting.

I don't fault them though, I understand it and still appreciate all the hard work those guys do put in. They put out good stuff.

poo brother,  after reading some of the Panthers' section on espn, I can use a little fluff about the Panthers.

espn Panther blogger trolling the hell out of Panther fans.  Top moments that shaped the Panthers....he lists a new article with a new play each day.  Last three or four days.....he has had the 97 yard return from the Packers game,  where the Packers raped us.  Another day he had the Wilson to Wilson play in the reg season when the Seahawks beat us in a heartbreaker.  Can't think of the other one.   Basically it seems like a 10 day celebration of how other teams raped us.
