Don't complain about Richardson when Nascar does this

NASCAR, as a sport/entertainment  just doesnt have that element of attraction to someone who wasnt exposed to it locally or from childhood. Not being from this country, it didn't appeal to me when I came here (nor to anyone I know thats not from here). So in a way, NASCAR doesnt add many fans over the years. I believe the fan base is slowly but steadily fading away.

Did yall hear about Sprint pulling out from sponsoring NASCAR in 2016?

old news but whatevs: http://www.click2houston.com/sports/sprint-to-pull-out-of-nascar-after-2016-season/30275376

I never understood why something like Indy cars weren't more popular, it's way more fun watching those or the euro races or the moto races.  I understand culture though, and that makes sense.

I wish we would have built another actual REAL museum or something like that instead.  It should have been in Concord like others mentioned.

NASCAR seems to come in phases of popularity, like Pro Wrestling.

In the 1990's my buddy would take me to Rockingham and we would camp out. It was as redneck as it gets and a blast. We would get pit passes and pit passes back then meant you could basically change a tire if you wanted.

This started to change when "white collar" folks started going to races. Or at least there was a perception of such. You would read articles in the observer about how the fan at CMS was just as likely to be a bank executive than something else. I don't know how true that was but people believed it and had visions of filling up CMS clones with upper middle class soccer dads around the country at $150 a pop.

The timing probably couldn't have been worse. NASCAR had already started to wane in popularity if only slightly in the late 1990s and then Earnhardt died and a few years later the economy tanked. So nobody cares to go to races anymore because it is too expensive and boring.

But NASCAR doesn't care because it just doubled its TV deal despite viewership and attendance having declined dramatically over the past decade. 10M -12M people used to watch a race and now it is 3M-5M. Basically there are enough cable networks that think it can make money with a NASCAR package at 5M viewers. Which is still a bunch.

Oh and who are the viewers. Carolinians and Southerners. The Greensboro area leads viewership every year.

SO I think when this bubble pops NASCAR might be forced to abandon Las Vegas and California and head back to the South.

But I think this will eventually create a bubble which will pop.

It must suck for all those like Zod when they realize that those inbred rednecks whose only talent is driving a car in a circle is making millions more than them a year. But it's ok. Keep sitting on your high horse laughing at those guys because you're so much better than them.

For real. Especially considering that more than half the field comes from California or the Pacific Northwest, so there are hardly any Southern drivers left anymore besides Dale Jr. and Hamlin.

Few quick comments from someone who grew up in motorsports and working in marketing and announcing for decades in it. Nascar's best division is treated like a red headed step child.........the modifieds.

I've seen 1,000 of races and live 2 miles from CMS and won't go there anymore........

There is a lot more to motorsports than stock cars on ovals too...............

Motorsports is a different animal..........it needs corporate revenue and talent won't get you anywhere if you don't have the money to demonstrate it......

and a HOF in any downtown area is a marketing nightmare...................HOFs of any sport are pretty much a bust......once you've been there that's it..........nothing else to see........

But at least they should have put the HOF by the track and they would get attendance from the events.......

Even been to the NFL HOF in Canton, Ohio?.........Lamest ass thing you could go to.............

Not surprised they are losing money with Nascar HOF......I don't see how any HOF makes money........

Only one that might be mildly interesting is Cooperstown (and I never watch Baseball on TV).  Baseball is intertwined to a great degree with American history over the last 150 years or so, and because of that, Cooperstown might be mildly interesting.  And even then, only as a stopover while traveling somewhere else.

I agree with this.  It's been a long time since I've been to a WINSTON CUP/NEXTEL CUP/SPRINT CUP race and have no desire to go back.  In fact, the last one I attended was when it WAS still Winston Cup.  Yeah, showing my age here.

If I do go to a race, I prefer the small tracks such as Bowman Gray in Winston-Salem or Caraway near Asheboro.  I know some of the people that race there and do the decals for a couple of their cars.  Great racing there and much more fun than the larger tracks.  The modifieds at Bowman Gray are really fun to watch.

I drive to work every day. I am an athlete.

The difference between driving home and on a nascar race....... hmmm in your terms its the difference between 2 min pooping with a 4 inch turd and 13 wipes, and a 45 minute pooping with 3 varying in sizes 10 inch - 6 inch turds and one wipe.
