Greg Robinson did ok. He had to deal with playing guard first, and he didn't transition well. But after the Jake Long injury, he became the LT and did pretty well. He's better than Fisher, Joeckel, and Matthews, and who could've predicted that.

Beaty will be 30 next month and has had a problem with injuries. Don't need another bandaid at OT.

FWIW he has graded positively by PFF 3 out of the last 4 years. This year, pretty much everyone else on the Giants o-line was terrible, but he was ok and as good as any other FA options.

no matter if we sign FA OT, we still should draft one anyways. But signing someone who we know isnt terrible is a good start. Look at the PFF grades for all 1st round OT taken the past two years. Its not pretty.....some of the worst grades in the league

That is a good point. If there entire line sucked it isn't too hard to appear to also suck. If the Giant release him. Bring him in, run him through the drills and see what he has left.

I also agree to bring in more than one draftee to learn and compete for the LT position.

Most importantly is the $$$$. If he comes at a decent price then go for it. Too much, keep going.

I read on b/r that Nate Solider could be cut by the Patriots because he is one of their top paid players. Although it's only a small chance he would be a great tackle to have. Maybe if he isn't cut he will probably be traded.

i don't believe he would do well in our Shula designed offense...best suited for a WCO.i will tell you why?...according to PFF in 2013 while playing in an Erhardt-Perkins offense he finished the season as the second worst tackle in the NFL

I think Greg Hardy had 14 sacks in one game against Beatty last season.

i was just using that as a reference, as i doubt anyone here has watched every snap of every player.  I actually think their OL  grades are usually decent.  again, they dont have to be exact, but offers a reference point.  

 

I think people often misunderstand the goals here.  We need a relative improvement at LT and likley RT.  Having Gross for so long distorted views on whats feasible.  Its really really hard to get a good LT.  Its hard to even get a decent LT.  

 

Im not saying throw the kitchen sink at Beatty, but he is 100% better than any OT on our roster right now.

I definitely believe we need to get our LT in free agency this year.  If G-man and Rivera wasn't so stupid in their pride about how they thought Bell could handle playing LT, we wouldn't even be having this problem and would have signed Jared Veldheer last year.  This season hopefully has opened their eyes.  The two best options are Bulaga and King Dunlap, if they make it to the open market.

yes we do.  We are gushing blood at lt, the free agent market sucks, the 2or 3  good ones will be snapped up by teams

that can afford to pay them more than us, and rookie LT's are a nightmare.

 

A band aid is exactly what we need.
