Deflate-Gate: Patriots Being Investigated For Deflated Footballs

Recommended Posts

Football seems to be the only sport where praise is given for bending the rules as much as possible without breaking them. Why make such a big deal about "Parity in the NFL" if exploitation of the rules is so justifiable. Meanwhile in baseball Pete Rose is still not in the HoF even though most agree that they think he never shaved points, the NBA will put its foot on your balls and stomp if they so much as hear you say certain words, and few still care about hockey.

Its not that impressive to win games when youre exploiting because not everyone is doing it. Many teams are trying to play straight up and one can call that foolish all he wants but you cant in turn call exploiting the rules genius and give credit. If not everyone is competing on those boundaries of the rules then what youre doing isnt genius. The other teams know what types of things the Pats and teams like them are doing. Dont you think any organization is cautious with the Pats after Spygate? They see it and then choose not too emulate it. They could bend the rules like the Pats, but choose not to. Thats not genius, thats a matter of morals.

Indy may have been in for an asskicking either way, but crazy stories like these show how Belichick is always doing anything he can for the W. Belichick may be a good football coach but he's not great. He might be considered great at the combination of football coaching and exploiting rules, but thats not what people are saying about him. The fact that he gets caught for things like this all the time show that his attitude is to "win at all costs". Thats great in war when death is on the line, but when Im trying to watch a sporting event Id like both teams to be on the same page. Everyone use the same rules and just play football, simple. smile.gif

Justifying any of what he does by saying other teams have done this or that is besides the point. People were bending the rules in football long before the Pats got popped for Spygate. I, for one, dont want to watch football where someone is constantly exploiting the rules better than the other guys.

Cant we just have football to watch?

So it was found that 11 of 12 patriots balls were under inflated.

I still couldn't care any less. The refs have multiple opportunities between every single play to see if the ball has been altered. So it is obviously so insignificant of an amount that they didn't notice it even though the side judge, linesman, and referee all touch the ball almost before every play.

And they scored 28 points after this was supposedly brought to their attention.

The Colts are reaching new lows with this silly poo.

if there's only 12 balls how did the Colts not get to use the deflated ones at all... they would've gotten that ass beat regardless of how much air was in the balls

It obviously had no effect on the outcome of the game, but it's the proven pattern of cheating that bothers me. Belichick is a football genius. So much of a genius that he knows all the rules and procedures and how to get around them. He's been doing things against the rules every single year, knowingly and doesn't get caught for most of it because he's good at it. Deflated balls aren't that big a deal. It's the constant disregard for the rules and integrity of the game that Belichick has. If the league had any balls, since this is his second offense for cheating, they'd suspend his ass indefinitely. Fines and loss of picks isn't enough for a repeat offender.

Wonder if New England was the only team doing this. Taller guys tend to have bigger hands, right? So I'd love to see the stats for the shorter QBs (cough, Drew Brees, cough) after next season when the league changes policy and has a neutral league person keep the balls instead of a team employee.

Shouldn't affect Cam. He's got some paws on him, but it would be hilarious if Drew's stats nosedived because he had to throw a properly inflated ball.
