I remembering reading teams will soak the balls in water to break them in before a game.  Depending on the weather would factor on how much they got broken in.

Its not cheating to be smarter than other teams, use the rules against them, execute their plays better than anyone.

The only reason this is a issue is because the Golden Boy lost. The NFL didn't like the spanking the Pats gave to the already crowned Colts. Now we get to hear a whole off season of why it was not Lucks fault the Pats cheated.
