Deflate-Gate: Patriots Being Investigated For Deflated Footballs

Recommended Posts

Your gotcha game needs as much work as your reading comprehension. When someone says a phrase like 'most likely scenario' or similar it's usually an indication that it's a theory, not a conclusion.

Right, well continue living in your fantasy bubble where everything you say is 100% right and everybody else is always wrong. At least I tried.

This could very well be true...if it is, I wouldn't fault the Patriots at all. From what I read, the NFL had been notified before the game and the refs planned to check the Patriots balls at halftime. If this was the basic plan by the NFL, I would bet they meticulously tested those balls to have accurate record of any changes that may have occurred. This is one of those speculative things that needs be judged after the report comes out. Aaron Rogers was complaining about the refs deflating his balls so your Bears ball boy comment about refs not measuring anything doesn't carry much weight since Rogers himself disputes that.

Why are you so compelled to defend the Patriots in such a vigorous way? You seem to go beyond the objective onlooker to where you're obviously biased in your opinion. It seems odd watching a Panther fan be so passionate towards defending another team.

I had a cousin on the Patriots from 2005-2008.

If the NFL knew about this pregame then why would they wait until an entire half had been played to test them? The NFL is preemptive in matters like this and would not allow the game to start just to prove a point.

Also, I don't see where the argument that under inflated balls pose an advantage. If they are easier for the offense to catch they also are for the defense. Also, once the balls were replaced the Patriots ripped off 28 straight points. So I ask you, is 17>28? And if so, how do prove it. And if you can prove it, do you really believe the balls played a role in this game?

Also, do you think the Patriots cheat and half been since Brady became the starter? Also, what are your personal feelings on citizens of the northeastern states?

Eff I'm tired of hearing about this $hit. Did they cheat? 45-7 had nothing to do with air pressure in a football. The media needs to find something else to report. Why don't they start by reporting facts and stop giving us their opinion? We all have opinions and they all suck. Jusy sayin.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but pretty damning analysis that suggests that the Patriots may have been deflating footballs since 2007, the year they were caught for SpyGate.  Read this link, it's worth it.  http://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/blog/?p=2932

Fumble-Chart-1.png

One can CLEARLY SEE the Patriots, visually, are off the chart. There is no other team even close to being near to their rate of 187 offensive plays (passes+rushes+sacks) per fumble. The league average is 105 plays/fumble. Most teams are within 21 plays of that number.

I spoke with a data scientist who I know from work on the NFLproject.com website, and sent him the data. He said:

Based on the assumption that fumbles per play follow a normal distribution, you’d expect to see, according to random fluctuation, the results that the Patriots have gotten over this period, once in 16,233.77 instances”.

Which in layman’s terms means that this result only being a coincidence, is like winning a raffle where you have a 0.0000616 probability to win. Which in other words, it’s very unlikely that it’s a coincidence.

I actually went back and researched 5 year periods for the entire NFL over the last 25 years. The Patriots ratio of 187 plays to 1 fumble is the BEST of ANY team in the NFL for ANY 5 year span of time over the last 25 years. Not was it just the best, it wasn’t close:

  1. 2010-2014 Patriots: 187 plays/fumble
  2. 2009-2013 Patriots: 156 plays/fumble
  3. 2006-2010 Colts: 156 plays/fumble
  4. 2005-2009 Colts: 153 plays/fumble
  5. 2007-2011 Patriots: 149 plays/fumble
  6. 2008-2012 Patriots: 148 plays/fumble
  7. 2010-2014 Texans: 140 plays/fumble
  8. 2004-2008 Colts: 139 plays/fumble
  9. 2006-2010 Jets: 135 plays/fumble
  10. 1999-2003 Chiefs: 134 plays/fumble

There are a few key takeaways. First and foremost, the 187 plays/fumble dwarfs even the rest of the best seasons the last 25 years. Second, the Patriots have been at the top of the NFL since 2007.

Ironically, as my study yesterday showed, the Patriots performance in wet weather home games mysteriously turned ridiculous starting in 2007. In 2006, they went 0-2. From 2007 onward, they went 14-1.

The next obvious question becomes, where were the Patriots in this statistic pre-2007? Take a look:

Not sure if this is a troll post or not, but I'll take a stab.

Why are you so compelled to assault the Patriots? You are obviously biased in your opinion.

If the NFL knew about this pregame then why would they wait until an entire half had been played to test them? The NFL is preemptive in matters like this and would not allow the game to start just to prove a point.

Think about it now. By testing the balls before the game and at halftime, the NFL now has PROOF that the balls were intentionally deflated. Testing the balls at the start of the game does nothing to help with that.

I don't think anybody in this entire thread has claimed that the Colts would have won. The point is that you shouldn't get a free pass on an institutionalized cheating process just because you blew out your opponent in the game you got caught.

Also, do you think the Patriots cheat and half been since Brady became the starter? Also, what are your personal feelings on citizens of the northeastern states?

Troll question??

You can reference that article as this being a sting by the NFL to catch the Patriots altering balls after the refs inspect them and deem them ready for play. I don't make stuff up so I can generally back up my points with some reference because losing my credibility is worth it. The final score shows that it wasn't necessary for the Patroits to use deflated balls and it was incredibly stupid to try and skirt the rules. My bias isn't against "the Patroits", it is against a team with a history of not respecting the rules of the game and basic fairplay. I want to believe that personal Integrity is not a thing of the past and my Panthers wouldn't turn a blind eye to following the rules if it cause fans to lose faith in the franchise or the NFL.

Whether or not you think deflated balls give an advantage isn't the point. The point is there are set rules for both teams to follow and the Patroits took it upon themselves to decide the rules that don't apply to them. It's the same type of arrogant behavior that got them in trouble in the past and for the life of me, I don't know why they do it. BB is a good coach, Brady is a HOF QB....I think it's his 6th Super Bowl appearance and I would LOVE for the Panthers to have that type of success but without all the shady nonsense. The Pats are too good of a team to act like back room hustlers and I wish they'd knock it off.

I don't know if Brady is a cheater, I will say this....I highly doubt the equipment manager is doing anything to the footballs that isn't at the specific request of Tom Brady. Those footballs are being tuned in to Brady's exact specifications so if they're deflated after the refs approve them, it's because Tom Brady instructed that to happen. Equipment managers don't ruin their QB's perfect footballs by changing air pressure on their own. I will never believe that because it goes totally against what he's there for, get the game balls perfect for Brady.

As for the people of the Northeast, I still own an office in NEPA. I lived there for 12 years and have many good friends and employees in that area. Nice, friendly people, with a strong work ethic and a good moral center. It was too mountainous and got waaaay too much snow for me to want to make it my permanent residence.

Finally, why am I compelled to assault the Patriots? Actually, all I'm doing is providing the TRUTH of what is going on with this situation. When I read these Patriot apologist come on here and spew lies or half truths, then I call them on it and provide links to the actual article, quote, or story. I'd rather not talk about the Pats but when they violate the rules (again) they open themselves up to this type of criticism.
