Deflate-Gate: Patriots Being Investigated For Deflated Footballs

Recommended Posts

The "everybody does it" excuse doesn't really hold water when the NFL threw everything but the kitchen sink at the saints... when during bountygate, a TON of defensive players, past and present were claiming every team does it.

Wasn't Payton pretty much suspended for it happening under his watch?

The refs inflate the balls, give them to the Packers who then inflate them more, beyond the legal limit. Cheating. Then when the refs notice they let fix it and let the extra air out.

It's literally the exact same situation except apparently the refs didn't notice (or did and didn't care) and played these underinflated balls from the Patriots.

You're statement isn't backed up by your video. The balls are only inspected for weight and psi before the game. That's the only time air would be added or removed by a referee. No one has indicated the balls were altered after "deemed ready for play" before the game as you suggest.

The teams don't get the balls until after they're deemed ready for play by the refs. The refs inspect the balls 2 hours before the game, approve them, then give them to the teams on the sideline. That's when the tampering takes place, then they're put into play by the refs, who again inspect the ball before it's fielded. That's when they've caught the Packers overinflating balls and had to let air out.

Don't the teams give the refstheir ball first? Thought it was teams give refs their footballs, refs check them then hold until game time, and then give back to team. Wouldn't Rodgers overenflate happen before given to ref and hoping that ref misses one.

The second inspection you're referring to doesn't jive with the NFL procedures I've read about. I could be wrong because I'm no rules expert but I haven't seen anything to support your interpretation of events. If the process you describe was in place, it seems like the refs would have caught and corrected the 11 out of 12 under inflated balls in New England. Just my opinion...

USA Today:

"With Super Bowl XLIX fast approaching, this story is pressurized to explode in the face of a league trying to regain its footing following an entire season's worth of off-the-field drama that tarnished its cherished shield.

...

Belichick has some serious explaining to do.

...

When the issue is ultimately settled, if the Patriots are found guilty, the punishment could be significant – especially given the track record."

You seem to have a comprehension problem.

The video you posted clearly says that he likes to over-inflate and see if the refs take the air out. At no point does it say he does it after the inspection as you suggest.

You are incorrect.... Balls are only checked once. The assertion you make about the Packers altering the psi after game approval is nonsense until you have some way of backing it up. Rogers never stated or admitted to that and it's irresponsible to suggest he did.

Is there anyone here who actually watched that game and think the Colts loss because Brady had a slightly deflated football??????????

If so then ...

No but you could argue it helped them achieve their record and homefield...

Bc it doesn't appear to be exclusive to one game....means they always do it

Seems to me the reason they give the teams the balls is so they can be altered to their preference. Hence the Packers over inflating for Rodgers with no issues.

I belive the rules state that they have to be at least a certain psi. There is no rule againt over inflating the ball
