Deflate-Gate: Patriots Being Investigated For Deflated Footballs

Recommended Posts

I'm going to need more evidence before I truly believe pats actively deflated balls.

How many of you are already completely sold?

Can't make up my mind on this.

Well, the NFL examined a dozen balls and found eleven of them underinflated by the exact same amount.

Unlikely that happens by accident, I'd say.

Yeah I get that, but I just don't understand how no one would notice when the ball changes so many hands. It's just hard for me to believe that no one would catch that on either camera or by handling the footballs.

11 out of 12 balls all under inflated by 2 pounds is proof on a conspiracy and under inflating a ball with 13.5 lbs by 2 lbs is significant. Belicheat should be suspended immediately and indefinitely.

but they all had the right cleats and headphones so its all good in NFL land

It was actually a 'change of hands' that started it.

Deflated ball investigation began after Colts interception

Why wouldn't the refs notice?  Possibly because refs don't handle a a football like a player does, I suppose.

I've learned more about footballs over the last couple of days than I ever expected.

here's the things I have heard...

the balls are all inspected 2 hours before the game by the ref and a representative of each team.  then the ref is in charge of these balls until game time.  each team plays on offense with their own balls...I did not know this before.

nfl radio was talking about a comment Brady made about Gronk spiking the ball so hard that it actually took air out of the ball and that while he felt sorry for the ball, he actually preferred to play with a ball that was under inflated...small bitch girly hands I assume.

then just by coincidence they discover 11 out of 12 balls on the Patriots side to be under inflated by 2 pounds...I find that just to be a little suspicious.

did it change the outcome of a 45-7 game...probably not...but is it cheating....surely sounds like it.

personally I'm waiting to hear if they inspected the Colts balls as well and what the outcome of that is.

this seems to be a bone of contention with those patriot fans as well.  My thinking without seeing it or trying it is that if you took a normal football and took two pounds out of it, it probably doesn't change the appearance of it and the general feel of it until you squeeze it like you would if you were dropping back to pass.

My biggest question...

Why bother against the Colts?

I know we were the team with the fewest wins in the playoffs, but I'd argue the Colts might have been the team with the least talent.

Outside of Andrew Luck and T Y Hilton, who on the Colts scares anybody?  You think opposing coaches lose sleep worrying about how to contain Coby Fleener?

They beat a Broncos team where John Fox had one foot out the door.  Panther fans know better than most how a team led by a half-hearted John Fox performs.

I was reading an article about how Rodgers prefers the ball more inflated and it made the comment that the refs inspect the balls before the game.  Does this mean that the refs screwed up in their inspection or that the deflation happened after the inspection?

Honestly I would love to re watch the game. I'd like to go play by play and see how many non-Patriot hands touch the ball after each offensive Patriot play. Between the other team and the refs and everything there has to be over a hundred times that the balls were touched (let's be grown ups here) without someone noticing the significant difference until one guy on the Colts noticed something.

Presumably then they would have used another ball that the Patriots scored 28 unanswered points with.

I know if it was our team I'd probably be bitching a lot more but until I seem some irrefutable timeline I'm gonna wait to destroy Brady and Bellichik, even though I'd love too.

I am not completely sold, still need more to show me that it was intentional and who was involved.  That being said, eleven out of twelve is very suspicious.

I did not think this was a big deal at first but as I have learned more about the advantage and heard how much under-inflated the footballs are I have changed my stance on this.  If it is found to be intentional by members of the organization then the Patriots should forfeit their first two draft picks in each of the next two seasons while everybody found to be involved should receive the same suspension as a player would for a positive PED test.
