how many of you were here in 2008/2009 when pat white was going to light the league on fire. then when he didn't it's because he got the shaft. just like geno smith is going to be an elite quarterback if he's "given a chance".

noticing a pattern? also i'm surprised that people are being as patient as they are when confronted with nothing but lazy ass rehashed bulletpoint arguments from 2011.

I remember Matt Moore getting a lot of that....Same old he was never given a "fair chance" stuff.

yep.  he also had a chris weinke avatar.

honestly with his acumen i'm amazed squirrel isn't a scout or an NFL quarterbacks coach.

Nah I just really really hate QB fan boys.  It is a team game there is more positions than QB. But QB fan boys always blame it on other parts of the team and it is never the QB's fault.

that's amazing!  i feel the same way about college team fanboys who tend to treat the NFL like a showcase for players from whatever school they follow.  they tend to blame the failures of their favorite grads on whatever team picks them up, usually arguing that they got shafted or weren't given a chance.

Odd because the idea that there are more positions than QB us exactly what people defending Cam Newton are saying.

For some reason people compute that as saying "it is never Cam's fault"

Terrible argument and categorically false.

1. First two seasons he had a real OC who liked to attack defenses and throw down field. He had Smith, LaFell, Olsen and Shockey. Oh, he also had a decent offensive line. As such, he rewrote the record books for a young QB.

2. Shula comes in and focuses on running more, the OL deteriorates and his targets become fewer and fewer.

3. His mechanics were much improved at the beginning of this season as he was forced to stay in the pocket - until his terrible OL had him getting hit repeatedly. Who doesn't lost their footwork and fundamentals when being beat to a pulp?

4. His reads and decision making has improved since he came into the league and ESPN did a nice segment on it leading up to the AZ game, I'll find it if I can.

5. He's become more patient in the pocket, waiting to take off and run.

He's improved in every area, I don't know what you're watching. He has stuff he needs to improve on, but to say he's failed to grow is just absurd.

I don't think you remember how much we all hated Chud...

Colin Kaepernick: 6 years, 110 Million, 61M guaranteed

Andy Dalton: 6 years, 115 Million, 40M (?) guaranteed

but yeah let's get Cam to nothing more than 19 million, less than what Carson fuging Palmer Is getting

Kap is guaranteed 2,162,000 per year... only 11.4% (13 M) of his contract is guaranteed...

Dalton is guaranteed 2,800,000 per year...only 17.7% (17 M) of his contract is guaranteed...

Cam Newton most resembles these two players in terms of actual performance, though Kap has actually been considerably more efficient throwing the football...

The Panthers will probably offer a similar type of contract to Newton. I suspect Newton will take it if it is offered prior to next season. If he plays next year under the option and has another 2014...oh boy...

If he suddenly becomes a top 10 QB next season then the Panthers can tag him in 2016...

Remember, the Panthers essentially have Newton locked up until he is 28...

And unless something radical happens, he will be a 28 year old QB with lots of mileage who still needs to run to be really effective...

i didn't like what he was doing for a stretch in 2012 but i don't think everybody hated him necessarily.  he certainly was more creative and aggressive than shula but that worked against him at times.  probably the worst thing he did was go way overboard with the zone read and the general concept of using cam as an all-purpose offensive weapon in the first half of the 2012 season.  we couldn't adequately protect him and what we saw resembled mike martz in chicago at times.

he was like a bizarro version of shula in some ways though.  his red zone play calling was weird-it was like we'd burn the field up between the 20s, get inside the red zone, try to bomb it into the end zone three times, and then trot out the kicker.  it seemed like he had no patience for long drives when we really needed them either.  like we'd be up 10 or 13 in the 4th quarter and he would still try to sling the ball around leading to a bunch of three and outs and other mishaps that would let the opposing offense back in to the game.

A top 10 QB based on what? QBR? Completion percentages? Exactly what criteria do you include and exclude to decide who's a top 10 QB? Any fair assessment would include QB rushing stats, especially rushing TD's and first downs right?
