Voth breaks down the 2015 salary cap

I know people think that because Gettleman cut Smitty, that anyone is vulnerable.

While technically I'm sure that is more or less true, comparing a Thomas Davis to a Steve Smith is just irresponsible. Something will get done with Davis' contract to retain him, I'm almost certain of that.

I don't think our defensive schemes work without TD. It's a big problem going forward, replacing him that is. But I suppose we could alter or schemes.

Cutting Harper only saves us $600k and he was actually a fairly consistent, steadying force during the last quarter of the year. I would like to upgrade the position, but keep Harper around for depth and experience. The season after next is when cutting Harper makes sense ($3.8m in savings).

It sounds like you want to hire him as a positions coach. Cutting him this year is a $600k saving this year. But next year he would be off the books entirely. That's 900k in savings next year.

I view Harper as a similar guy to Charles Godfrey. This game is for top tier athletes. Harper is so slow, Wilson picked on him last week.

In no way, shape, or form could we possibly lose CJ, Kalil, or TD and hope that it wouldn't be a significant loss.

1. CJ - He was easily our best pass rusher, and later in the year turned on the jets and earned his contract in every way, highly disruptive player and easily the best player on our line. (Yes, even better than Hardy)

2. Kalil - Look what happened when Mack went down in Cleveland. Centers are crucial, and we have a top three one.

3. TD - Do I really need to say anything? Playing at an all pro level, and is the heart of the defense.

Those are our center pieces.

The only possibility of CJ being cut is of he stonewalls every avenue to lower his cap number, which I don't see happening. Kalil is too valuable to cut - that would leave a line full of 2nd and 3rd year players - and TD deserves every last dime but understands the business. These guys will also work to adjust their cap numbers in a fair manner.

I'm very strict when it comes to jersey retirements and statues burin starting to lean on the side of thomas Davis should get a statute. They have already set precedent that with Sam Mills that not only hall of famers can get statues. I think Steve smith gets one and possible thomas davis. If julius peppers goes into the HOF he should get one as well because he will be recognized in the HOF as a Panther. I know some may be against that now but times heals all wounds, I guarantee the majority will fee differently down the road about him.

With all that said Gettleman has done a great job with the cap and we are very close to finally being able to compete financially.

if a franchise is around 100 years.....maybe 1-2 guys will be statue worthy.

i don't see Peppers or Smith getting a statue.

I don't think you and the others talking statues, realize t he true significance of the Sam Mills statue. It has nothing to do with the NFL HOF.

Kalil contract isn't bad.

Could we save a bit by extending him? Sure.

He will not be cut regardless.

Thomas Davis is earning his contract.

CJ is the only guy that ya can really make an.impact by extending him.

There is no way the Panther could cut him when he is the only significant pass rusher on the team.

Cam, kalil, olsen, cj, stew, and td ALL need "new" contracts. You could even add luke to that list too.

I don't want to see anything happen with Stewart's contract. He has three years left with high Cap hits and already a dead money year after that. Her will hit his wall and begin to decline in these three years and pushing money towards future years may not be a good idea when you look at how it's structured. I doubt a pay cut is in order either as he holds the leverage. Unfortunately we need to let the contract play out.

I agree, smitty will get his number retired, but I doubt s statue. I would be behind a TD statue though, he really represents the "Keep Pounding" mantra set by Sam mills.

First of all I understand Thomas Davis has a significant cap hit this year. But I completely disagree with cutting him because of it. Let's remember that due to his injuries we have had TD at a bargain price for a while now. He deserves a year of elite money for once in his career. Even still he will probably rework his deal. But this man is the best OLB in the game. Let's not forget that.

Kalil should not leave this team for at least another 2-3 years. The offensive line is too young and fragile and Cam needs him more than anyone.

I think CJ reworks his deal. I do believe there is a slim chance Hardy comes back but at the end of the day this is a position that DG will keep well stocked. Ealy is going to be a good one and Big Frank looked much improved.

3 names jump out at me, aside from DLo, who might not be in the GOAT uniforms in NFL history next year...

Tolbert, DeCoud, Cotchery.

Cotch doesn't really save us any money, plus he was decent... but speed was the name of the game in the pressers.

Tolbert and DeCoud might be goners though. DeCoud is a no brainer, but Tolbert is a fan favorite.

Granted, 89 was the all-time fan favorite.

Also, I have no idea what I'm talking about contract-wise so I'll let the resident Huddle Cap Experts weigh in......

I hope not Tolbert, he was the catalyst to Stewart and the running game taking off the second half of the season.
