Matthias' Pre-Combine Mock Off Season 2015

Matthias

Recommended Posts

I won't go in depth with all the guys I want in free agency or all the guys I would release, but I'll mention my main points of things needed to be done this off-season.

Releases/Cuts/Let Go's:

DeAngelo Williams

Greg Hardy

Byron Bell

Amini Silatolu

Kugz

Thomas DeCoud

Roman Harper

Wes Horton

Melvin White

Resign:

Dwan Edwards

Trade: (Every once in a while I play around with stuff like this in my mocks heehee)

Panthers get- 2nd

Giants get- Ryan Kalil

I know it's not likely to trade a center for a high round pick, but Kalil is a probowl caliber center.  I imagine they want to protect Manning and give that team a good line to run behind. (Specially with their duo of running back)  I see that team has three centers currently on the roster, and that tells me they are not strong at that position.  I don't think it's so far fetched, but what does this move do for us and why would I make it?  One, perhaps it saves us money.  I think we could bring in a decent center to replace Kalil, and I already have my eye on one.  With more money, the more likely we will be able to bring in quality free agents, while at the same time having money to re-sign guys like Cam, Luke, and Norman.  That's my biggest reason for making this move.

Free Agent Market:

Bryan Bulaga

He's a LT playing RT, so Green Bay can drive his contract price down.  Unless the Packers slap him with the tag, I believe he should enter the free agent market to play for a team that wants him to be on the blindside, and will pay him for it.  That will be us if the Panthers were smart.

Antrel Rolle

He's a productive safety who can cause his fair share of turnovers.  Should come in on a friendly deal.

Bruce Carter

Bruce+Carter+Dallas+Cowboys+v+Carolina+P

Another guy who should come in on a friendly deal.  In any case, what linebacker wouldn't want to come and play with Kuechly and Davis?  Carter is young enough and perhaps talented enough to eventually take over TD's spot, but in the meantime it would be great to have three great linebackers.  He's had 5 ints this past season, so his hands are good to play against the passing game.

NFL Draft:

1st Round- Cameron Erving

I was really impressed by how he played when he moved to center.  I know we need wide receiver help, but this would be a very good pick up at 25.  I don't think a top OT will fall.  I'm not much of a fan of La'el Collins or Brandon Scherff.  A lot of people are saying they may be better suited playing OG at this level.  The way I see it, if Andrus Peat or Ereck Flowers are not there, you go BPA.  In this case, I'm taking the best center.

2nd Round (Kalil trade)- Sammie Coates

Many project him right now to be in the late first-early second range.  His college stats would suggest mid 2nd-early 3rd, but we all know about his speed and size.  Those two things alone could make his a sure first rounder.  Though some have questions about his ability to run a full route tree.  Is he nothing more than a guy who runs go routes, or can he be something more?  I believe in the latter.  I didn't like the system at Auburn, and I believe he was limited by it.

2nd Round- Rashad Greene

He's been a reliable guy throughout his career at Florida State.  So he has that experience type of edge about him, even though he would be a rookie receiver.  Would peg him as a our slot guy, and he can return punts.

3rd Round- Chris Hackett

Hackett is a safety that could rise up on the boards.  He has a pension for hard hits, and would suit us well as a prospect for our long term SS.  TCU had a great year.  Some would say they got snubbed out of the college playoffs.  In any case, I got to believe this guy had something to do with how their season went.

4th Round- Cedric Reed

This whole year I was questioning what was wrong with this kid.  It didn't look like he was giving much effort at all, and to me I was wondering if he was even worth a draft pick. (Which considering his junior year's stats, it would be a heck of a fall in draft status)  Yet now I know why he has been playing with seemingly no explosiveness.  He's been playing with a torn meniscus.  He was still able to get 6 sacks, 3 in one game.  So now I'm looking at a pretty good prospect to replace Greg Hardy long term.  We'll see.

5th Round- Sean Hickey

I suppose this would be a value pick.  Earlier in the year, he was worth 2nd-3rd, yet now he fell back a bit.  Ideally I would sign another OT in free agency to compete with Remmers. (Then again, the ideal situation would be getting Peat or Flowers in the first)

6th Round- Marcus Murphy

Your drafts are like reach central. Look at your picks last year vs. their actual draft position:

1st round - 2nd round

2nd round - 4th round

3rd round - undrafted

4th round - undrafted

5th round - 7th round

6th round - undrafted

7th round - 3rd round

Heehee, you can't hold me for that.  No one can predict how the actual draft will go.  Yet for those prospects I chose for last year were worth the grade I gave them if it weren't for things like injuries and perhaps mindset.  I just go from what I see on the field, well, for most of them.  The others I try to find highlight tape on youtube.

As for this mock, it's just an early look at things.  I really like Cameron Erving so far, and that can change after the combine or what have you.  Along with that, I thought we could save money on trading Kalil to bring in more quality, experienced players in free agency.  I haven't listed all the guys I would like on the free agent market in this mock.  By the way, heehee, my 7th for last year ended up as a 3rd rounder.  That's pretty good stuff.

Think Cameron Erving in the 1st will be a reach, feel he would be there in the 2nd.

No Way I would trade Kalil.  We are lucky as bad as our OL is to have Kalil back there.  Having a top pro bowl Center is huge.  Just ask Peyton Manning how important Jeff Saturday was.

Only possible trade I would look at though would be Anderson.  Its really nice having him at 2nd string QB, but I think we could realistically get at least a 3rd out of him from Chicago with their QB situation right now.
