The Lone Panther's Mock Draft - One

The Lone Panther

Recommended Posts

Release/Cut: D. Williams, Greg Hardy, Colin Cole, Joe Webb, Ed Dickson, Garry Williams, Ben Jacobs, James Dockery, Brenton Bersin, Ritchie Brockel, Nate Chandler, Edmund Kugbila, D. Presley, Frank Velasco, Mike Tolbert, Kyle Love, Tomas Decoud, Roman Harper, Graham Gano, and Kevin Reddick.

Resign: Byron Bell, Dwan Edwards, Chase Blackburn, Fozzy Whittaker, Brian Folkerts, and Chris Scott

Free Agency:

Dawan Laundry -  Safety

Solid safety, provides experience and depth.  Short term deal while we let our younger guys gain the experience that's needed to take over full-time.

Patrick Dimarco - FB

Patrick+DiMarco+Atlanta+Falcons+v+Buffal

Tolbert is gone, Dimarco could be a cheap replacement.  He's a solid blocker and receiver.

Cecil Shorts - WR

Cecil+Shorts+III+Atlanta+Falcons+v+Jacks

Brandon Tate - WR

Brandon+Tate+Cincinnati+Bengals+v+Jackso

Both Tate and Shorts are becoming buried under the depth chart from either better receivers or by young receivers.  They're decent quality guys who provides experience and depth.

Draft:

Round 1 - Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami

Yes, I'm saying we snag Flowers in the first round.  I have a good feeling he falls to us and we quickly grab him.  Day 1 starter at LT.

Round 2 - Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA

Owamagbe+Odighizuwa+UCLA+v+Washington+ik

Wide receivers seems to be fairly deep in this year's draft, which is why we grab a DE in the 2nd.  With Hardy and most likely Alexander gone, we need some bodies at DE, and I don't see GM going after any in the FA.  Owamagbe is a solid pass rusher with good size.  If he pans out, he could be Charles Johnson's replacement.

Round 3 - Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina

One word, STUD.  I just hope he there's in the 3rd.

Round 4 - Damarious Randall, FS, Arizona St

No need to go into depth about the guy, will be a very good safety in the next level, Solid tackler.

Round 5 - Austin Shepherd, OT, Alabama

Yup, we double dip at OT in this year's draft, 1 LT and 1 RT.  I see us double dipping at tackle because I don't seeing GM going after any tackles in the FA mainly because all the good one's will either be out of our price range or will resign with their current team.  Shepperd's draft stock is slowly rising.  Was originally projected to be a 7th rounder or go undrafted, but now is projected to be a 5th round pick.

Round 6 (Comp) - Chucky Hunter, DT, TCU

I think we get at least 1 comp pick this year and my guess it will be in the 6th round.  I think we pick up a DT with this pick.  Solid DT, good stats, good size.  Will play in the two deep and will be Colin Cole's replacement this year.  I think we grab another DT from next year's draft, which will be Dwan Edwards replacement.  Time to replenish the d-line with some younger bodies.

Round 6 - Damain Swann, CB Georgia

A VERY underrated corner.  My only concern is people are going to start seeing this and his draft stock with rise and we may miss out.

Round 7 - Xzavier Dickson, LB, Alabama

Monster of a LB, probably have a limited role in 2015 since he'll need some time to make the transition from college to pro.  But I have this guy being Thomas Davis' replacement.

Undrafted Free Agents Potential Players:

I think the most important position here would be a kicker, since I have us letting Gano go.

Potential players and positions:

Kicker - Kyle Brindza, Notre Dame

RB - Marlin Lane, Tennessee (Overrated guy, good size, skills overlooked because of Jalen Hurd taking most of the snaps)

TE - Rory Anderson, South Carolina (Had a VERY good early career, but took a step back, and battled injuries his senior year)

WR - Damiere Byrd (World class speed and a deep ball threat)  Look up his plays on YouTube and he's projected to go undrafted.  Could be a steal and would make an excellent slot receiver.

2015 Projected Depth Chart:

QB - Cam Newton/Derek Anderson

RB - Jonathan Stewart/ /Fozzy Whittaker/Darrin Reaves

FB - Patrick Dimarco

TE - Greg Olsen /Brandon Williams

LOL at cutting Gano and relying on an undrafted kicker to replace him.

7 out of the top 10 kickers in the NFL went undrafted.  More than likely we'll end up keeping him, but Gano struggles when it comes to the long range field goals.  He's just 67% from 40+.  And I swear I read on here that cutting Gano would save 2 million in cap space.  No sure if that's correct, though.
