Which, IMO means that Gettleman will look to FA to address the need at safety.  Gettleman seems to be a pure value guy in the draft, which (again, IMO) is a great thing.  Teams tend to get in trouble when they start reaching based on need.  The safety draft class just looks really weak this year.  There isn't likely to be good value at safety in the 1st and 2nd rounds based on where we'll be selecting.  I know the common thought process among fans is to draft that position early since it's a weak class, but the fact that it is a weak class is likely to push the top prospects a little farther up the board than they'd otherwise deserve to be.  That ain't the game Gettleman plays.  On the flip side, WR being so deep will likely push some guys a little farther down the board than they might be in other drafts. That's the game Gettleman plays.  Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see us go WR in the 1st or 2nd.

Anybody else feel that Randall Cobb is a byproduct of ARod?  I mean, Garcon went on to do good things after leaving Peyton behind, but just curious if everyone thinks that Cobb will be the same kind of WR within Shula's offense and not having Aaron Rodgers at the helm.

Take the Tackle in FA.

Draft a project or value prospect at same position.

Draft WR or SS with 1st pick unless BPA dictates otherwise.

2nd pick could be any of the above.

Same for 3rd.

Mid-late rounds are strictly BPA with an eye towards depth at key positions.

this.

easier for WRs and safeties to make a quicker and less painful transition to the pros than OTs.

That's a fair point.  Da'Norris Searcy is interesting at SS.  Awesome at run support but also pretty strong in coverage.

Buffalo's secondary is full and he was part of a rotation.  He'd be ideal here IMO but he is 5'11 and we all know how the trend has been recently in our secondary.

As it looks like we're keeping Shula, we absolutely cannot afford to be drafting defense. We need a WR and an OT with our first picks or we'll be stuck with even more years of "it's the personnel that sucks not Shula!" excuses to keep him around.

FAs ,D. Searcy, B. Tate.

draft Devin Smith.

I'm a UNC fan too and this post definitely smacks of homerism, but if you look at the situation objectively, both of those former Heels fit our needs very well.

Absolutely agree about Smith.  If he was there in the 2nd, I'd draft him with zero hesitation.  Hell, I'd be evaluating him as a possibility at #25.  I know Gettleman likes guys who can run the full route tree, but work him out with Proehl and see what he's got.  We all know that Proehl was drooling over KB as soon as he got a chance to work him out.  All Smith was asked to do at OSU was go deep, but that doesn't mean that's all he can do.  Urban Meyer coaches to win college football game, he's very good at it and that's his JOB.  But, he doesn't always do the best job of developing well rounded players for the NFL game, but... that's not his job.  Smith shows ideal physical skills and fantastic hands.  You can't teach those tools.  You either have them or you don't.  You can teach running routes.

It is kind of a thin class but check out Clayton Geathers, Kurtis Drummond, and Jaquiski Tartt.  Those three I find pretty interesting rounds 2-4

I found Drummond to be an interesting prospect, but there was a couple of games late in the year that I watched, where he got beat pretty bad deep.  I wouldn't mind if we took him in the third.  There's also the safety out of Ole Miss, Cody Prewiitt.  I wouldn't mind him in the second.

no homerism here. I watch college ball, but have no specific team(just watch for players/good games). I think searcy could be a legit SS. Tate would be a good KR/PR.

Devin Smith would be a huge addition to the WR corps. im not sure about the 2nd tho. seen a few mocks with him being took before our 1st rd pick

I agree.  I think Searcy and Tate would both be good fits for our roster.

I also agree on Smith.  Seems like he was really being talked about as a mid-rounder a few weeks ago, but I think when teams start watching him and see him workout someone is gonna fall in love.  Hell, the ghost of Al Davis would probably take him at #4 overall.
