Ravens tell Smith to take a little time out

Mr. Scot

"Steve Smith,  we'd like to talk with you.....  we're going to have to let you go ,  you should really think about retirement.   It's not you, it's us.   You have effectively scared the poo out of Flacco, and he was once one of the coolest,  unwavering qbs in the playoffs"

He may make it difficult to cut him obviously. The only thing is, Smith may not want to look like a villain 2X in a row so recently; thus may chill.

He could surprise us all and accept reductions in both role and salary, but that'd be a big change from his demeanor here.

Then he'll be a Patriot next year.

Could happen.

Tom Brady is unequivocally in charge there, though.  Wonder how those two mesh.  Also wonder how he feels about possibly being behind Brandon LaFell on the depth chart.

Don't see the big deal. He'll be 36. Take a few weeks and think about it. Next January is a long way away.

It's no big deal when something like this gets said to a player who's undecided about his future.

It's highly unusual to have it said to a player who just told everyone he's eager to come back.

If that were to happen... get your popcorn out!!! :sword:

To me it'd be more hilarious that the Patriots would have our old #1 and #2 receivers.

"It’s up to Steve, really, in the end – how he feels and if he thinks he can do it physically.”

His physical abilities are definitely battling father time. So a couple weeks to do some soul searching doesn't seem all that abnormal to me.

Yeah...Except it's really not.

If it were completely "up to Steve" they could just leave it at what he's already said about wanting to come back.

And Smith hasn't expressed any doubts about his physical abilities, but it sounds like the team may have a few.

I'd say those who have suggested that the Ravens want Smith to choose retirement himself so that they don't look bad have a pretty strong argument.

If he doesn't do that, or doesn't like the proposed 'different role', then things could get interesting.

Not that deep to me. But you could be right who knows.

Funny that in the grand scheme of things, the whole business in free agency actually benefited us in the end, Ginn/Munnerlyn/Mitchell all struggled, Smith had 1k yards but now seems more trouble than worth, LaFell ended up having a nice year but there's no way he has those stats if we kept him, okay we signed some duds but Cotchery and Harper were decent enough in the end but I think their experience and locker room prepubescence were the big beneficiaries there, the likes of KB/Brown and Bene/Norman/Boston seemed to have learnt a lot from them

For this reason alone, he probably doesn't go there, unless he's trying prove he's a team player all of a sudden. :phew:

Hello Mr. Gettleman, How are you? I want to congratulate you on your team doing well this year with all the changes and all. Ive been talking with my team and all, and well it dosnt sound like it is doing well. I am sorry for all the things i did in the past, and I just want to make it right. I am wondering if I be on the Panthers next year, I want to retire a Panther. I will take a Pay Cut and Dimished role, just let me be closer to my home-- Steve Smith Sr
