John Fox and Denver parting ways

Mass confusion?

They might have to replace coordinators on both sides of the ball if Del Rio gets the Raiders job (and word is he wants it bad).

Conceivable Gase might decide to call his own plays though.

madness.  The Raiders truly live up to their stadium/fanbase's nickname.

At least the Jags' defense seems to be sort of turning around a bit.  The Raiders...good lord.

If he wants to be a HC that badly, Atlanta would be a hell of a lot better situation to walk into.

Fox is a good coach.  He is probably one of the best at taking a downtrodden team and building it to mediocrity (7-9 to 9-7).  BUT, he's not a coach that can take them to the next level.  IMO, I think he's good at turning bad teams to decent because he coaches safe.  He doesn't get too fancy, and when he has a lead, he doesn't do anything to risk it.  Of course, the problem with that is it allows opponents to get back in the game and steal one (we saw that many, many times here in Carolina).  He also usually has pretty good discipline on his teams, so they usually don't beat themselves.

This is why I would love him in Atlanta.  Despite their record the last couple of years, the Falcons are not a bad team.  They just need a few fixes to make them decent.  IMO, their problem was that Mike Smith is very similar to Fox.  Both are solid, safe coaches that are so stubborn about their philosophies that they do not adjust very well.  They are both conservative by nature and refuse to open things up...particularly Fox.  To be honest, if Fox was here in 2011 I don't see any way Cam would have been our pick, we would probably ended up with Marcel Darius as the choice.

Mutually agreed separation.

Wouldn't be surprised if Fox has been on notice for awhile that this would come to pass with another playoff loss.

If so, he has probably has had his agent scouting for optimal HC opportunities and won't be without a job for long.

'Hey guys, I was just made to look like a fool in the playoffs yet again. Can I have a job?'

Anybody on the former Broncos coaching staff that Carolina could hire as an upgrade?

Special Teams Coach Jeff Rodgers (used to work here, no relation to Richard)

Quarterbacks Coach Greg Knapp (actual experience as a QB coach)

There's a few other former Panthers coaches on that staff, but nobody that interest me all that much.

Eric Studesville has a good rep as an RB coach, but I don't know that Jim Skipper is in any danger.

It is all in how you spin it. Could just as easily blame this last loss on PM.

I am no JF fan but he is a solid if unspectacular HC.

Teamed with a decent GM (not Hurney) he is consistently able to get his teams into the playoffs and for the majority of the organizations in the league, that would be an upgrade.

I would be very surprised if he isn't a head coach somewhere in the NFL next year.
