Release:

 

DeAngelo Williams - designated as a June 1st cut to help with money. Delo's time here is up. We all know it.

Thomas DeCoud - he's garbage and there's no reason to keep him on the team.

Ramon Harper - made some nice plays but also looked terrible at times.

 

 

 

Resigning:

 

Fozzy Whitaker - I'm comfortable with him as one of the backups behind Stewart. Short-term, very low cost.

Ed Dickson - solid backup TE. He played fine for us this season in that role wouldn't mind bringing him back.

 

 

 

Free Agents:

 

King Dunlap, LT

 

Just had a great season with the Chargers. DG trusted the guys on the roster last season and it failed. I think he goes hard after a free agent tackle this offseason in response. Dunlap will hopefully be his top target.

 

 

Michael Crabtree, WR

 

After somewhat of a down year I expect his price-tag to decrease. Kaep was bad this season and the whole team seemed to be off due to the drama around their head coach. Crabtree is still a great talent and would be a nice compliment to KB and the #2 we desperately need.

 

 

Jarrett Boykin, WR

This is nothing but a depth signing. Boykin had a decent 2013 season wit the Packers (49 rec, 681 yards, 3 TDs) but didn't see a lot of action this season due to GB being loaded at WR. He should be a cheap signing.

Da'Norris Searcy, SS

 

Searcy played 14 games, 12 starts, and finished with 65 tackles, 3 INT, 2 FF this season. He is a heavy hitter and would be a perfect fit beside Boston (not just because they're both UNC guys). With the Bills hiring Rex Ryan as their coach he may chose to resign there but if he hits the market I think we should be all over him. Underrated and cheap-ish.

 

 

Terrence Cody, DT

 

Fat guy that adds depth.

 

 

Draft Picks:

 

Round 1: Shaq Thompson, LB, Washington

 

I realize LB is a not big need right now but I believe in the BPA strategy. Shaq Thompson is just a freak. He did everything for the Huskies, playing LB, S, and even RB at times. Finished the 2014 season with 81 tackles, 1 INT, 3 FF, 4 FR, and 4 defensive TDs (most by a defensive player in over a decade). When he had to play RB (3 games) he average 124 ypg and 7.5 ypc. He is best built as an OLB and that will likely be his position in the pros, however he could see time at SS. He is the next Thomas Davis and I'm very confident in saying that right now.  He has speed to cover sideline to sideline and great instincts to make the big play. Clutch player in college. I know a lot of people love AJ, myself included, but Shaq is going to be a difference maker.

Round 2: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

 

The deep threat we need. on him was spot on, so please read it as explanation for this pick.

Round 3: Corey Robinson, OT, South Carolina

 

Projected as a RT in the NFL, Robinson would provide some nice competition with Remmers for the starting spot. Robinson is a large man (6-8, 344 lbs) with decent athleticism. Known as a solid run blocker.

 

 

Round 4: David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa

 

Big, strong back. Produced 3-straight 1K yard seasons. His senior season he finished with over 1,500 yads and 17 rushing TDs. He's also a receiving threat, finishing with 38 rec for 536 yards and 2 TDs. If that's not enough, he's also seen time as a return man. He had a 98-yard return for TD this season. He doesn't possess high-end speed but he is a versatile player. Can be used as a H-back due to his receiving ability.

 

 

Round 5: Kevin White, TCU, CB

 

Projected as a slot CB but is capable of playing on the outside. He held 1st-round prospect Kevin White to 3 rec, 28 yards in their meeting this season. 

 

 

Round 6: Jermauria Rasco, DE, LSU

 

Finished 2014 with 51 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Good against the run. 

 

 

Round 7: Jamon Brown, OT/OG, Louisville

 

Big, strong guy. Can block other guys. Probably better inside.

Not bad. Free agent signings are pretty realistic. I like Shaq thompson but i think combine will push him out of our range. Love Devin smith also. Perfect deep threat for us and is a special team gunner.

King Dunlap might be kept by the chargers they don't have a very good line already and are looking to draft oline in the 1st

For an early mock, I really like it. Like both the FA and draft picks.

 

Dunlap would be huge but you have to think SD keeps him. Their line isn't great and he experienced and their best T. It'd take a better offer from us to lure him away.

 

Also worried about the OT depth but I guess Foucault might be able to develop and we could get lucky from UDFA/practice squad guys. (or even comp picks)

You guys should read up on David Johnson, the RB out of Northern Iowa. He is a very unique player.

I'm not quite so sure how realistic the FA signings are.  As individual signings, yea sure realistic.  But the sum of all of those is too much, I think.  If we were to so adequately address OT, WR, SS in FA then I'd be more than fine with a 1st round LB and the rest of your draft.  Your FA seriously pretty much hems up our needs and the draft could be legitimately BPA.

Great FA bargain shopping and I like the draft too. I heavily considered a LB in round 1 in my mock and wouldn't hate the pick at all. Imagine 3 elite LB's on the field at once.
