B.Bell: Next season I can come back and make some. noise"

I guess I just don't see the value of bringing in Senor Matadore as a sub.

Is the logic that if he only gets 15% of the snaps, Cam's chances for death or serious injury go down 85%? In that case, lets just make that 100%.

Haha naw it's more like if one of our starting tackles go down we aren't starting some scrub rookie or someone with no experience. Listen bell isn't good. But he's not some automatic turnstile ppl are making him out be. He'd be helpful in a pinch which is what you want your backup tackle to be. Tackles are rare, even mediocre ones

I don't understand this "valuable backup" garbage.

If he sucks (and he really, really does), why would you want him as even a backup?

You are operating under the premise that we would be better with 10 men. A commonly held but false belief.

The reason you want Bell as a backup is because there are much, much worse players out there. Look at the two games he's missed in the past four years. The Giants in 2012 was a disaster. Cam wanted a suggestion box. The Saints this year when Foucalt fouced up.

A backup with 4 years experience is perfect to me. Good mix of youth and experience. We can put him in and know what to expect. With a rookie backup you aren't sure if they even know the playbook.

The problem with this discussion is everyone that doesn't like Bell cannot view this with pragmatism. He's become a symbol of failure to them. The truth is he's not going to dominate 1v1 on Cam's blind side. He gave up two sacks on the road to a terrific defense. There are plenty of starting tackles that would do the same.

Bell is a very... Confident player. He's really firm in his beliefs that he's a very good player (I've seen it at training camp).

I think Bell, and I've said this before, is going to go the route of Frank Omiyale. He's a free agent LT/RT in a year where te FA pool is not the best. A team is going to offer him a large sum, based off of his swing tackle abilities. Then, in two years, he's going to flame out.

I really love all of the intangible parts of Bell's game.  He's a good dude, funny, has some leadership skills, and is now a four year vet.  The main issue is his play!  We all see that he's just not a starter in the NFL no matter how hard he works, how good of a person he is.  You want to root for him, but then he get's blown up and you're like "Man, what are you doing!?"

I'd love to have him back cheap as a back up like everyone else.  But let's also play the Huddle's DOOMSDAY line:  2015 Starting LT for the Carolina Panthers:  Byron Bell.  That is a possible reality.  Good LTs don't grow on trees or under rocks....  Could be Cam and the coaches trust Bell more than another guy...which would be super weird to us, but par for the course for the NFL..

I keep having flashbacks of the Eagles game....9 sacks allowed. Ugh! Of course, they weren't all on Bell but I've seen him get abuse enough to know we need an upgrade.

That was hard to watch but you have to remember it in context. Turner was out, Silatolu, Bell and Chandler played with injuries and we had two turnovers in the first three plays of the game. Cam dropped back over 50 times with a busted oline.

Man was that a miserable night but looking back you can see why.

Our qb is covered with his own blood after every game. You can't blame it all on Bell but it's near 90% his fault. I don't want Bell near this team. We can pick up anybody from f/a or draft and they will do a better job. I would like to see someone step up from our team so we can use our resources in other areas but Bell is a no go.

The only way i want Bell back, even as a backup,is because we have no other option. That is my thinking but the Panthers my view him as a offensive lineman that can play several positions as a backup,if forced to. It all depends on what Gettleman can come up with at the tackle position and how much money we would have to pay Bell to resign him.

I wouldn't mind keeping him on the cheap and making him a backup. Start teaching him LG and RG and you have a guy who can be a fill in if there is an in game injury. He's not someone you want to rely on every game, but he can fill a hole in an emergency. If another team offers him two million a year, let him walk.
