Realistically, what is the future of Shula?

This playoff run saved his job. The sooner you accept it the sooner you'll get over it. Trust me I don't like it but that's what happens when the lights turn on in December.

yeah, sadly Shula is not going anywhere.

and complaining about Shula this offseason should be severely mocked.

You have it totally backwards. The whole system is totally built around Cam and what he does well. The whole read option was installed for Cam as was the emphasis on the running game to take the pressure off his throwing 40 times a game. Chud from what I have read was not that big fan of Cam and often limited what he could do or call.

Cam speaks highly of Shula because Shula lets him runs the offense and call his own plays.

The read option was already installed when Shula got to Carolina by Chudzinski.

He needs to be let go.

This offense would work 15 years ago in the NFL, but not now.  We need to score more efficiently in the red zone and Shula is terrible there.  Field goals won't cut it.  Granted, we need better skilled players on offense, but some of the calls this year were just undefendable.  Bombs on 3rd and short, screen passes to the slowest WR in the league (Cotchery) which was still going on even Saturday, pulling out players on crucial plays, Bersin being on the field (and team for that matter), using Avant as a deep threat when he's not, etc.   We need more creativity on offense.

That being said, he'll still be here probably.  Panthers love mediocrity, always have, and until we get a different owner it won't change, sadly.

Hope I am surprised.

If we promote within, John Ramsdell need to be Cam QB coach and possible offensive coordinator

Other possible options

Hue Jackson Cincy, Darrell Bevell Seattle, Kyle Shanahan, Cleveland, Joe Lombardi, Detroit, Frank Reich, Chargers; Josh McDaniels, Patriots

There are options, but it doesn't matter if this organization have their minds up to keep Shula

All for Shanahan made rg3 look good actually.

so , what do learn from this if true? We don't need a friend for Cam we need an OC .

A combination of factors made up the demise of this offense:

A. Cam still just looks lost on some plays. They are leaning on his rushing ability for him to make plays which is necessary but not at the expense of him maturing as a pocket QB. His touch SUCKS. He throws a rocket or nothing at all...that needs to be corrected. Truthfully I think that Dorsey needs to be out too. Someone needs to get on the field with Cam and have him throw "touch" passes all offseason. We know he can bomb it and we know he can throw the 25 yard out route on a rope. He needs the touch throws.

B. Redzone play calling. Shula sucks at it. If we aren't within 5 yards where a back can just bulldoze his way in the Shula is lost. Our efficiency from the 25 to the 5 had to be the worst in the league. Long developing plays and crappy run calls are the norm for that area of the field and Shula needs to be gone for that reason as well.

C. I know this falls on the position coaches but taking our best players out at key times of the game is a problem. With a scoring opp and the OL protecting well on Saturday we took our best receiver out of the game and the result was a coverage sack. THEN...we make Breton Bersin the #1 option once again inside the redzone and he gets nothing which causes Cam to go to read 2 (covered) and then read 3 (Dickson) and throws a pick 6. Partly on Cam...partly on Shula for a freaking terrible play call at crucial moments of the game.

There is no reason for us to struggle scoring...we have 2 monster backs with good speed/agility. We have the most multi dimensional QB in the league. We have a 6'5" receiver who will only continue to improve. We have the most sure handed TE in the game...and our OL started playing well at the end of the season. Insert a LT and a speed WR and well have some weapons. But even with all of that I don't see Shula improving and that is the goal. So if he isn't improving then he should be gone.

Cam showed what he could do as a ROOKIE with a OC who would open it up and take shots. This is now gonna be year 5...

Teams don't generally allow lateral moves for there coaches so practically all of those on the list aren't options.  Only Shannahan.

I've been trying to list all the postives about shula and pick out the best.

I believe the shula future......... well Im trying to say he pulled a fast or is it a slow one on the panthers. He made sure to become butt buds with cam, that my huddlers is a power move.

Just say for s and giggles, cam is super shula supporter. Ok....... and cam wants his bff shula here or he'll think about pulling a peppers.........

Would you take cam if it means keepin shula for the same amount of time, hmmm?

I really don't think that is how cam operates. He seems like a team guy. Thankfully.

given that Rivera has the playbook and film to analyze every play, maybe if he is okay with it, He knows something that most on here don't which is that perhaps it isn't Shula's fault. If it was Shula's fault primarily, he would or will be gone.

There is a difference between thinking and knowing.

He very well may not think Shula is the problem.

Few have defended Shula more than me. But the "execution" excuse is any easy excuse. You can apply it across the board for any OC. Most are not just dimwitted idiots, so it is easy to say "well if this guy did that and that guy did that the play would have worked" That is almost always true on any given play.

But if players are not executing that in itself is a failure of coaching. Especially when it becomes an epidemic. After all, coaching is not just creating a playbook and calling plays. It is coaching guys up to execute those plays properly.

I am not one who has excessively called for Shula's head on a platter since day one. But at the end of the day, it is on an OC to find a way to generate yards and points. He failed too many times this season to just chalk it up to "players just didn't execute"

The problem with this organization is they don't believe in a strong offense, they always believe on building a great defense. They never think about having crazy options. Just one great WR with below average help. One great TE with below average help. Cams rookie year showed a sign of what he needed, and what did they do? Go away from what works just like they do now. KB, Smith, Brown would have done some damage. Watch this organization do all the wrong things this off season. Watch Shula stay, watch Bell stay a starter, just watch. We all know WR, OL, S, Kick returner, OC, QBC, and STC are all positions that needs to be evaluated. Hope they prove me wrong.
