It's Dez own fault. He got greedy and reached out for a TD instead of securing the catch. Dez made a fascinating play but rules are rules and he didn't follow it through.

 

I just can't agree with that. He made his two steps and lunged for the endzone. We can't punish players for trying to score.

No the ground can't cause a fumble. But by definition, for someone to fumble , they have to have possession.

 

You can't have possession if you don't control the ball to the ground. You may not agree with the rule but a fumble can't happen without possession. So that doesn't apply.

Because he never made a football move and did not control it all the way to the ground it is not considered a catch, therefore it does not matter that he was touched.  If it had made said football move and then it would have been considered a catch, down by contact, an no fumble because the ground cannot cause a fumble.

Cobb was kind of classless there. I don't blame him for being happy but tossing the football when you just ended another teams season...Just kind of came across as kicking a dead horse.
