What does Gettleman do about Cam

Basically it comes down to, once the negotiating goes south, do you defend Gettleman's penny-pinching or your franchise QB?

Um about that franchise QB thing.  Cam isn't that.  Shop Cam if you can get 2 first and 2 2nd round picks for him trade him.  If not let him play next season and let the chips fall where they fall.

I guess we'll just see whose approach is correct when Gettleman picks one of the two options given him and we keep track of the Panthers' record thereafter.

You're fuging stupid if you think he isn't a franchise quarterback.

And yeah, if you get offered two firsts and two seconds, you take it. But that is insane compensation for any quarterback and it would also mean there is a rebuilding process.

If we give him a small contract and give him a lot of money under the table, we can save a lot of money on the cap.

God you're awful. What rock did you crawl out from under today?

Do you realize the poo storm that would ensue from paying a player under the table?? The salary cap is so tightly controlled that even gifts of value over 15k given to retiring players are counted against the cap. Loans given to players count against the cap....Loans.

And you're suggesting we circumvent the cap by paying someone under the table? You think bountygate was a poo storm......you just wait till someone is stupid enough to do what you suggest.

What shitstorm? If you don't think some teams are already doing it, I don't know what to tell you. poo, it happens in college recruiting all the time. It would only hit the fan if it leaked out to the media, and even then it isn't even guaranteed that many would make a big deal out of it.

College isn't the Pros.  The NCAA will just give a little wink.  The NFL owners will rage because that takes more money out of their pockets.

No they don't. Not in the pros. The cap exists for competitive equalization purposes. Circumventing the cap would have major implications.

If we were DUMB enough to let Cam test the market, teams like Tennessee, Buffalo, Jets, Titans would destroy the bank. Cam is a franchise qb and will be paid as such, no hometown discount deals

Gettlemen will not pay Cam a ton of cash because losing teams would.

Funny when people get all emotional about this--I assure you, Gettlemen won't.  Cam will get a fair deal.  He has not played well enough to dictate what the amount will be and hold DG in checkmate.  Gettlemen has options, and will consider all of them.  That is why he did not give Hardy a big deal (and drafted Ealy) and sent Smitty packing.  Call it dumb if you want, but you are not trying to get this team out of Cap Hell.  He will offer Cam a fair deal, guaranteed money based on his performance and incentives (unguaranteed) based on his potential upside.

Nothing that Gettlemen has done leads me to believe that Cam is in control of the situation.  We are in the same situation the Niners were in with Kaepernick, the Bengals with Dalton, and the Ravens with Flacco.  Flacco got a big deal in terms of guaranteed money, but the other 2 were incentive-laden deals.  Since Flacco has been money in the playoffs, has a ring, and is a top 10 (statistically) rated QB, he got guaranteed $$.  The others were not, but wanted a big contract, so they got one that is not predominately guaranteed.  Cam is in the Kaepernick/Dalton category.
