So what does Gettleman do with Cam?

I just hope Cam doesn't expect a mega deal that would cripple the team, a la Drew Brees.

Something team friendly that pays him fairly is ideal. We'll see how it works out.

I have to hope he wouldn't, after he's seen what it's like playing with subpar talent around him the past few years

Cam continuously takes the blame for things that are out of his control. Cam continuously takes a beating because of a lack of protection. Cam has been hung out to dry by this organization so far, unless DG finally addresses are needs then why on earth should Cam give this organization a discount?

Guest Barry McCaulkinor

Cam needs to improve before he gets a big deal. He's still making the same mistakes he has since he was drafted. No improvement? No deal.

I look for a deal in the style of the one Kaepernick got.

While it may not be all his fault, Newton is too inconsistent right now to break the bank on him.

It is his fault, look at Wilson, he doesnt have the talent we do and still get it done. Thats whats make great and good what they are, they work with what they have and elevate them. We have some pieces but Cam is just not in that class and I dont see him getting there. His decision making and mechanics are poor.

But see that is the thing. If your Cam and the Panthers say to you that requesting a mega deal will hurt us putting talent around you...

Your response has to be: "Well you had 4 years to not put subpar talent around me while I was on my rookie contract. I am not giving you 5 more years so you can keep putting Bersin and Bell on the field. Give me my money."

At the end of the day, players, coaches, GMs, and franchises need to look out for number 1. And if I am Cam Newton, you already got a discount for 4 years, during that time you should have been surrounding me with talent. So now I have to take ANOTHER discount for you to POSSIBLY not get me a rookie WR as my clear No. 1 threat?

wilson and cam have different strengths and weaknesses

i'm also amazed at the number of people who seemingly have no idea what a west coast offense is.  the entire system is designed around high percentage passing.  steve young was deadly in san francisco with a lot of the same concepts that seattle runs-getting the QB outside of the pocket.  the panthers run a coryell flavor which is substantially different and it's arguable whether we even have the personnel to run it correctly.

tldr if you go "hur dur russell wilson make less mistake he better mechanic look at cam" you don't know anything

Yup.

The bigger question becomes, if Newton isn't the answer, who is?

Newton has spent so much time carrying the load of the offense. We need to actually develop him. We've done a rather fugging poor job of it. Shula has been a failure and eventually fired pretty much everywhere he's coached, and Dorsey never even coached before at all. They were cheap hires, and if we keep taking that bargain bin route with our talent who we have so much invested in then we are going to keep getting the same results for this franchise no matter who we put behind center.

STOP and think for a sec... We are in cap hell still.

I think there is 2-3 possible things to be with Cams contract

1) if it saves Cap space this year use the 5th year option

2) use 5th year option in 2015, then if the average of 2016 QB's is lower than a possible deal francise him then 2017 pay him

3) work out a 5year deal where the money is back loaded to help us out in the next 2 years

Remember Getalman told us it will be 2 yrs to get out cap situation under control
