So what does Gettleman do with Cam?

If you give him a five-year deal worth $40 million and pay $60 million under the table through another company, it's the same thing, but it helps the cap and the team.

And it doesn't matter how much is "guaranteed" because it's not like they'll cut him.

OK, what you've been spouting in this thread is illegal in all shapes and forms in the NFL CBA.

First see > http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8278b475/article/nfl-takes-millions-in-cap-space-away-from-cowboys-skins

Second see -

In general, article XXV (1) prohibits teams from
entering into contracts with undisclosed terms or unreported payments 85 (2)
states the understanding that teams not enter contracts with players
designed to defeat the purposes of the parties;86 and (3) establishes a
mechanism to review and punish such transgressions. 87
Perhaps the most intriguing section of this article is the second section
anticipating possible attempts to circumvent the salary cap. The
Circumvention Clause 88 prohibits teams from entering into player contracts
with "terms that are designed to serve the purpose of defeating or
circumventing the intention of the parties as reflected by (a) the provisions.
. with respect to [DGR], Salary Cap, Entering Player Pool, and Minimum
Team Salary, and (B) any other term or provision of [the] Agreement." 89
Furthermore, the same paragraph states that "any conduct permitted by
[the] Agreement shall not be considered to be a violation of this
provision."

Circumventing the cap has been illegal in the NFL since the start.

OK, but if you don't tell anybody then who would know?

Because if Cam accepts a ridiculously low contract and an undisclosed endorsement deal, like you're proposing, no one is going to just write it off as " Well geewillikers that Cam Newton sure is a team player."

Everyone from TMZ to Grits aka "Shelby's finest pedo redskins fan" would be offering up large sums of money ( or 12 year old trailer park hookers and a coupon for $5 off glass eyeball cleaner in Grit's case) for information about the endorsement and/or contract. And that's not including the league's own investigation.

You're talking about a large financial conspiracy to circumvent the cap and its not logical. Quit, as I've stated a million times, being dumb.

I'll give you credit. This actually makes sense and is a reasonable argument.

To the people saying don't sign Cam for e perfectly reasonable 5 year, 100 million dollar contract, why don't we just bring back Matt Moore or Pickles? Tell Weinke to come out of retirement? Post 2008 Jake? Oh, I have an idea. Let's give up 3 number one draft picks to trade up for Mariota/Winston. Or if all fails, Anderson can start, throw some of those picks that he is known for and then get benched for Joe Webb. Or we could possibly trade for Cutler and his large contract. Straight up for Cam.

I will not listen to anybody saying we cut Cam unless they have a logical option as to who we replace Cam with.

Edit: And can someone ban this dude^?

The answer is on the roster.

Not true, at all. Restructured contracts and post-June 1st cuts are both circumventing the cap. If there's nothing in the CBA restricting it, it's allowed.

Both are allowed. Another option would be JR writing a check to Cecil just as a friend, and Cecil could give that money to Newton as a gift. But again, that would be frowned upon in the unlikely scenario that it got out.

Somebody has finally cheered me up.

Thank you, CamCan for this stupid poo! I haven't laughed this hard in days!

If Kap and Dalton can get $100 million deals, I don't see why we can't give Cam one. He's better than both QBs. Cam Newtons don't grow on tree so we need to keep him.

What makes him better in your opinion?  Just trying to help out DG here

Sure 7 year deal.  Which would make it 14.3 mil per year.  Cam is not worth anything more than 15 million a year right now.
