Car/Home insurance

Currently, I have State Farm for all insurance needs which includes home and two cars. After opening my six month premium, I've decided to shop around for cheaper quotes. I feel like I'm over paying for having a local agent a mile down the street.

What insuarnce company provides the best rates? Any feedback on companies such as GEICO/Esurance?

Unfortunately there isn't one answer to your question. Different companies try to attract different segments at different times depending on their experience. And companies file new rates as often as every 6 months.

So you have to dig around...

As a Metlife employee, I can tell you not to bother with them. We're not very competitive in the NC market, we're extremely conservative with our risk assessment, and will most definitely cost more than State Farm. It's very good insurance and if you can get a Grand Protect policy you'll have an unparalleled amount of coverage, but you're definitely going to pay for it.

I've had both GEICO and Esurance in the past. Both are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than everyone else. I shop around every 6 months and switch when I get better rates. Both have good claims service and I like the convenience of being able to do everything online. I've had no issues with either one and both have good claims service if you ever need it.

I use to have Farm Bureau for Homeowners and Auto.  Farm Bureau is pretty decent with rates, but Geico is slightly cheaper for similar auto coverage.  And its a little easier to do online.  My wife damaged her car, and we were able to do everything online and via phone.

I did keep my Homeowners with Farm Bureau, since its escrowed and if my home got damaged I would prefer to deal with an agent.

Cheaper isn't always better. Don't forget to check around and ask people you know and work with if they have ever had claims, especially with homeowner's policy. Some companies are a real PITA to work with and will shortcut you every step of the way. Might be a good thing to call some body shops and restoration companies and see who they prefer to work with if you want to look at it from that angle.

i have yet to see significant discounts by bundling auto and home. that being said, my homeowners is with liberty mutual and my auto is with esurance. my auto claims with esurance and GEICO were both easy, quick, convenient, and completed to my satisfaction. i have not had a homeowners claims to speak of.
