Off-season Moves 2015

I'm really excited to see what Gettleman's gonna do this off-season. I'll be the first to admit, I wasn't at all happy with most of the moves he made this past year and I put him down a lot. However, I think he's a smart guy and he just tried to make too much out of nothing. It worked in 2012-13 but not so much this season. I expect that he'll learn from what he did and that we'll be a really competitive team next season.

I think we'll bring in 3 new starters in FA and 2 in the draft.

.

Top moves I want to see:

1. New OC/QB/ST Coach: Shula just didn't get it done this season and made countless questionable calls week in, week out. Ken Dorsey obviously hasn't helped Cam. Regardless of the talent around him it really looked as if Cam regressed this year. (Not setting his feet, late on throws, overthrows, and just bad reads in general.) Pretty much all that can be fixed with coaching.

2. Sign a proven vet at OT: This position should be where our money (what little we have) goes this off-season. OT needs to be our priority position in not only free agency, but also the draft. We should bring back Remmers as a back-up but I'd like to see two new bookends starting next season. We'll call this FA #1.

3. Bring in a Veteran WR: Cotchery was definitely not enough this season. I'd like to see us bring in someone with reliable hands and a good mentor for KB. Behind whoever we sign to play OT, this should be where our second biggest contract goes. We'll call this FA #2.

4. Sign a Pass Rusher: Not sure how the Hardy situation is going to play out but I really doubt he comes back. This is Gettleman's favorite position so I definitely think he'll bring in someone else to play opposite CJ while Ealy continues to develop. We saw just how important Hardy was this season. FA #3.

5. Let Roman Harper go: Harper made a few big plays this year but his overall play was nothing short of awful. We need to draft someone or bring in an under the radar guy that fits our system... I'll leave that to Gett.

6. Sign/Draft a return guy: I cringed every time Bersin had the ball kicked to him this season. We don't need anyone too spectacular; someone who can catch the ball and has a basic football IQ would be a good start.

7. Release Deangelo: Dlo had a good run but his time here is over.

8. Resign Dwan: Really reliable guy who has brought this team a lot of pass rush the past few seasons.

9. Resign Anderson: This move could be more important than most think.

With all this said, I think our draft should look something like this:

RD1: OT

RD2: SS

RD3: TE, didn't like what I saw from Dickson towards the end of the season. You can usually find pretty good TEs in the third. Especially a #2 TE.

RD4: RB, Stew is undoubtedly our starter going foward but we're gonna need someone to take Dlo's place. Fozzy should compete for #2 with who we draft here.

RD5: WR, hopefully we can find a guy with return ability here

RD6: OG

RD7: LB

With all these moves made, our roster would look something like this:

*Rookie

*FA

QB Cam, Anderson

RB Stew, Fozzy, RD4

FB Tolbert

WR1 KB, Philly Brown, FA

WR2 FA #2, Cotchery, RD5

1) I want a toilet seat made of 24k gold, so neither one of us is getting what we want

2) Michael Roos of the Titans is the only proven LT available right now, and he's 50/50 about retiring--rest are RTs with injury concerns(Free, Bulaga, Dunlap)

3) bit of hope here, but won't bring in a diva type who'll infect Benji and Philly

4) already have 3 young pass-rushing DEs and a middle-aged CJ under contract, plus DEs get big $$$ in free agency, so won't sign one, but will draft another if he falls to us so we can play hardball with CJ's contract

5) Harper will be next year's starter again and lead the young secondary, but if Gettleman drafts a SS, new guy may be starting later in the season (unless he's our 1st or 2nd round pick, then earlier)

6) always possible with a later draft pick, since we won't have as many starting spots open as this year

7) If we cut him, it will be with an After June 1st designation so we can spread the $5.8 mil over 2 years

8) Agree Dwan will be our top re-sign priority. Guys that can rush the passer are always in demand more than run-stuffers. Dickson will be our #2 priority, since pass-catchers are also good to stock up on. Colin Cole might be re-signed if a run-stuffing DT isn't drafted.

9) Anderson is under contract until 2016, no need to re-sign yet

As far as your draft goes, it's thoughtful, yet utterly irrelevant. DG will pick whoever is at the top of his board at a position of need no matter what any of us think or scream for. If the 5th best OT(30th best player) and 2nd best DE (9th best player) are there at 25, he'll pick the DE and sleep well that night. Teams that are consistent play-off contenders build their starting lineups and depth following a best player available idea, and that's how we got so many rookies to play very well for us. Holes at this position or that position be damned. Every team has holes. Every. One. Of. Them. Championship teams have the deepest talent on their rosters, because injuries happen to every team, and teams that have the better 53 players on their roster go farther than teams that can't match up to that depth.

i mostly agree with this. no serious objections. i do agree with the other commenters that OT is going to be difficult to find in free agency this offseason. TE is not really an issue for me. Dickson did struggle at first, and i wouldnt object if he wasnt retained, but neither do i think we need to spend a draft pick on the TE position at this point

I agree with most of what you said. Pretty much none of what I said has to happen (or is even likely to really). But it's just what makes sense in my mind. And you're right, Gett doesn't draft for need so there's no way to predict really. I was just having some fun and saying what I personally think would make this team better

Yeah I didn't look at how bad the FA market was for OT before typing this. However, there will be some talent available in the draft so I think we find our LT there. Then we can sign a FA to compete with Remmers for RT.
