Possible Assistant Options

I wonder why they would not approach Warren Moon for the QB coach job based solely on the fact that he and Cam have worked together (pre draft) before.  Has anyone addressed that before?  Personally, he knows what it is to convert from a running qb to a deadly-accurate passing qb.

change is tremendously unlikely.

What I'd do:

*Richard Rodgers becomes Rivera's chief of staff.  Just help him manage the game, team.  I'm not saying Ron requires this, but I did always like the idea of having a guy to do this.  Bill Walsh always had a young coach as his personal assistant (included, if I remember right, Billick at one point, Gruden another), and had a chief of staff in John Ralston, who was his senior.

*Go get DeCamillis as ST coach.  I'm fairly certain DeHaven is an assistant so he's got a limited role befitting the time he wants to put in.

*I don't know if re-assigning Dorsey is possible.  I like Geep as QBs coach, though.  I like Ramsdell, I just don't know what role he's interested in playing.  For now, it seems he's not putting in the hours, but I'd be fine if he was interested.   I'd also, funny enough, be somewhat interested in Dameyune Craig as QBs coach.  No, he's not going to be a technician.  But he knows a progressive O that Cam's had success in.   You won't find a good spread O coach that will be willing to come to the pros as an OC.  You can find a positional assistant and help bring concepts along.

Otherwise I'm OK with Dorsey.

*yes, that means I'm OK with Shula.  You know, people this time last year pissed and moaned that the yards had dropped significantly in '13, and I noted offensive scoring stayed the same.   This year, yards went up to 16th, scoring stayed the same (someone will nitpick that it went down a single point).

I like his concepts.  I'm not bothered by his last name.  I wish things were less conservative, and some of that's a package deal with Rivera.   I wish, looking back at the year, there was better execution in the passing game and a better LT more than I wish there was scheme change.   And unless you're willing to part with Rivera, that's how it's going to be.  Shula's method of administering this O is no different than later Chud, minus the quadruple reverse fullback passes.

Ideally, we'd be running a spread option attack that deals with packaged plays more (Carolina does run them, by the way, the short pass that Carroll tried to whine about was one, the fumble was another), that gives Cam more flexibility.   The later season O, I'm more than fine with that. It's not that different.

I'm glad that there isn't some turnover, partially because I could see this team getting saddled with Fewell and Giunta out of loyalty to Gettleman.  I know that's probably unfair, and I tend not to be unfair of him, but Fewell did interview here before, and Gettleman has natural ties to him.   It's one data point - that they hired Holcomb at LBs - that makes me think that, so maybe I'm off base.

And it's useless discussion since there's no room on the D staff.
