Congrats! You wanted it and it happened. Rivera and Shula is here to stay!

You wanted to make the playoffs and we did! Despite having a losing record, we were the first mentally challenged Olympian to cross the finish line and make the playoffs because everyone else stopped to pick daisies at midfield. The reward is having a tremendously lower draft pick and getting to keep our tremendously awful coaches. Shula isn't going anywhere. Rivera isn't either. No one is getting fired. Everyone keeps their job another year. WOOO HOOOO! Hope you guys are happy :D

You know what, now that you mention it, I think I would have much rather started the offseason six or seven weeks ago. To hell with our young core getting a playoff win. To hell with our young core standing toe to toe with the Seahawks for three quarters. Clearly we are going to need a higher draft pick on each round because our GM is absolute garbage when it comes to finding valuable players. Clearly we should completely gut the entire franchise and give Cam a new HC, and his third offensive system to learn in his fifth year. That will surely turn this around and give us a shot to be a dynasty.

fug off. The last two weeks have been awesome. I'm really proud of this team.

This.....

What an unexpected run. This so sets us up for next year. Cam and the team have had their first post season road game and now know what it takes to win. A whole lot better than draft position and being a perennial loser. But you already know this.....

I'd totally still fire Shula. Guy is hot stinking garbage. Gets predictable as a bad soap opera, goes away from what's working and is good for at least 2-3 drives of full fugtard every game that cost us huge. We need another weapon but we have huge stretches where we barely utilize the ones we have.

Back in 2010 .. the 6-9 Seahawks had a SNF game in Week 17 with freaking Charlie Whitehurst at QB.  A loss against the Rams would have sent rookie Sam Bradford to the playoffs and the Seahawks into the Top 10 of the draft.   A ton of Seahawk fans kind of hoped the Rams would win so the Seahawks could get the Top 10 pick and come next year with - you would think - an extra impact player in the fold.

So what happened?  Well the soft, overrated New Orleans Saints came into Seattle thinking their ish didn't stink.. and Matt Hasselbeck had the game of his life, Brandon Stokley looked 25 again and Marshawn Lynch had the best run in playoff history.  They'd go on the road the next week and fight hard, but eventually go down against the Bears by double digits .. would pick 25th instead of 9th.. and be much worse for it in the end.  Right?

Wrong.

The team believed in itself after that.  Sure.. the next season they went 7-9 (in large part because the lockout forced our hand and made us start Tarvaris Jackson at QB since he knew new OC Darrell Bevell's system), but slowly it started coming together.  Little by little.

And that valuable draft position the team cost itself?  They likely would have picked Jake Locker at 9 had the Rams beat them.  Instead they took James Carpenter, who isn't much better than Locker, but the 2012-present Seahawks don't exist without that win IMO.

The point of this post is.. playoff wins are invaluable to a young team.  In 2013 you had a great regular season, but no playoff victories.  Now you have a playoff win to hang your hats on.  At the same point, you were down by 4 points going into the 4th quarter in the defending champions house.

If you think this is a bad thing for your future, you're grossly mistaken.

today sucked, but i wouldn't trade the last six weeks for a fuging thing. all the best teams manage to draft in the 20s every year and stay competitive, so it's really not an excuse.

what we saw was a young team with room to grow, but poo ton of talent and hunger who fight to the end.

that's what i want. had we lost out, there would be very little reason to hope and we likely wouldn't have the potential to win next year that we now have. my faith in the franchise is restored. they still have a ways to go and i'm not at all convinced that rivera is the man for the job and i'm sure i want shula/rodgers/bell gone, but as far as this group of players and the GM that is building this team, i think we're on to something really good.

Thanks for this! Mind speaking to the Panthers roster before they fly back?

Thanks really happy Rivera stays. Not so much about mike but that still could change,

just really sad you think Rivera should go. I think he did a amazing job rallying this team with what they had to work with.

Thank you!! Finally somebody sees it. It shows how strongly the players like and believe in Rivera that they stayed together and made a run to the playoffs. A lot of teams would give up on their coach and run him out of town. Rivera is one of the most respectable and likeable guys in the nfl and its a real shame a lot of our fans don't respect him.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
