Seahawks to make Russell Wilson highest-paid QB

I'm a Wilson fan when they're not playing the Panthers. Watched him and pulled for him all through college. He's much more than a game manager. Not surprised he's still being underrated though. Lots of NC State fans said he was too short to play in the NFL and wouldn't even be drafted. I've always thought he could be the next Fran Tarkenton and predict he'll have a long, successful career.

Flacco won them that Super Bowl. Russel Wilson just happened to be on the team. There's a big difference

thats not fair at all. SF defense matched Seattles defense in the NFC Championship game last year and Russell Wilson out played Kaepernick. Threw for over 200 yards completed over 60% of his passes, threw a TD, and did not throw a pick or fumble. I know it is the cool thing on this board to tear down Luck, RG3, Kapernick, and Wilson in honor of Cam, but that isn't right. I would take Cam over RG3, WIlson, and Kaepernick without thinking twice, but to be fair Wilson won a Super Bowl and will deserve every penny he gets.

If Andrew Luck goes on to be a top 5 QB of all time and never wins a Super Bowl does it justify paying him more than Wilson who did? The whole point is to win a Super Bowl. Look how many teams in the NFL either only won 1 Super Bowl or never won. It is the hardest championship to win. If your QB gets you win I believe it is completely fair to stay loyal to him. Like to answer another poster before, if Delhomme won that Super Bowl I would not have cared less how much they gave him. Look how much they gave him and he didn't win a Super Bowl. Would it really have made any difference?

Anybody who thinks Wilson has even an average OL or thinks Wilson runs out of perfect or almost-perfect pockets need to go back and watch the Hawks vs. the Cardinals (any game) from this year. Against other NFL teams they are not much better.

For as crappy as Carolina's passing blocking can be at times...I have never seen an OL literally get pushed back into the QB before the ball even gets to a chance to be snapped back to the QB.

The Seahawks OL, when it comes to pass blocking, is beyond the worst (might be the worst ever) in the NFL.

The Panthers should have zero problems getting pressure of Wilson.

Not even close to being the worst ever or the worst this year.

Wilson has been the best bargin, but the highest paid ?? Plus he's one of luckest QBs too. They should give him the tom brady brainwash talk: in order to keep winning and pay others, you need to take less money. Etc etc. He's due for a huge signing bonus, but id hate to see my team pay wilson 22+ million. Like other stated best D and beast mode. Backup QBs could win 10 games easy with the same setup. The seahawks have been leading the league in rushing since wilson started. make beast mode the highest paid, not 175yards per game, few mistake, 4th quarter lucky, wlison.

I agree with everything minus the line comment. Maybe if we actually had our starters, we could be an average line. But we have had only one starter that has survived the season, can't stay healthy and it's been quite terrible this season.

I was not aware of the OL woes.  That makes Seattle and Carolina even closer mirror images.

i don't get it. he won a super bowl. why is everyone so confused about this. plus they are rewarding him because he has been criminally underpaid due to where he was drafted. if cam wins the Panthers a super bowl I would be more than happy to give a blank check, and I bet a majority of other fan bases would laugh at the Panthers. same thing with Joe Flacco. the dude won a super bowl he can have whatever he wants. it is the Kaeprnick and Dalton contracts I don't agree with. Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethilisberger, Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers deserve anything they want.

This sort of short sighted ignorant thought process is part of the problem.  QBs don't win Super Bowls, no matter what the group-think or media wants you to believe.  Teams win Super Bowls.  Roethlisberger had two of the worst performances in Super Bowl history (one of them, THE worst) and yet his TEAM still won.  Teams predicated upon the offense and the passing game, yea their QBs are typically studs and deserving of mega deals (Saints, Manning-Colts, Manning-Broncos, Packers, Patriots etc.).  Teams who ride great defenses to Super Bowls almost always (maybe always always, haven't done any research) fall off after giving their undeserving QB mega deals because they can no longer afford the amazing defenses, and in some cases amazing supporting offensive cast of OL, WRs, RBs (Steelers, Giants, 49ers, potentially the Ravens though they've held on for now).  Winning a Super Bowl should not be a blank check for a game manager.

Is Wilson a game manager like Eli, Dilfer, Johnson, Roethlisberger to an extent?  I'd say kinda.  He's closer to Eli than Peyton, but he brings a little more than most game managers.  His ability to extend plays put's him above the average game manager, but I still think he requires a great team around him to be successful (pretty much my definition of a game manager).

Does he deserve that contract?  Eh, no but they gotta do what they gotta do.  Some idiot GM would make him an astronomical offer like what he's supposedly gonna get and then the Seahawks would have to find themselves another game manager+ (which, despite sounding like a pejorative title, isn't exactly a simple task) because there are plenty of GMs out there that buy into the idiot group-think notion that QBs are always 100% responsible for the success and failure of a TEAM.  Better to pay Wilson, keep his confidence boosted (which will only help his performance), and hope to keep hitting home runs in the draft than to lose their QB and hope to get lucky on a QB in the draft.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
