Blaming Cam is easy, but often a mistake.

Now imagine have to hold in your mind they play call, the snap count, the audibles, the hot reads, motion options, the defensive alignment, who is the mike, are they blitzing, is it zone or man, remember to sell the fake, oh yeah the play clock. 

 

Thats just pre snap.

 

Snap the ball, turn to fake the hand off but remember which way to turn, stick the ball out, pull the ball back, turn back to the line, read the defense, pick your target, set your feet, throw the ball to a specific spot of the field.   (remember to do this without worrying if Bell got beat on your blindside)

I only remember that particular play vaguely but from the looks of the picture alone, it looks like that play would have drawn PI if Brady or manning were making that throw, and if that was the case we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.

1 play from a game doesn't exactly mean much. Cam isn't always the problem but he needs to play better, period.

I am the first to admit that Cam at times does overthrow receivers. But there is a trend lately on twitter for blaming him when there is a but more to the story.

 

 

Example... Jaws claims Cam overthrew Kelvin Benjamin in the end zone against Seattle earlier this year... Bill provided a screen shot

 

 

The problem here is that the ball is perfectly placed where it needs to be. Corner of the end zone, where KB or no one will get it. In fact, when Cam throws the ball, Benjamin is way back at the 15 yard line. Cam is not throwing to a receiver, but a spot where he expects Kelvin to be.

 

So why wasn't Kelvin there?

 

Well, maybe because Richard Sherman did I nice job of disrupting Kelvin's route right at the allowed 5 yard mark.

 

 

Pretty good play by Sherman that saved a touchdown. Should Kelvin have fought through it and gotten there? Probably. I suspect that is something Kelvin will get better at as time goes on.

 

 

In short, people are too quick to blame cam on passing downs.

 

This happens pretty often. The Dickson sideline throw on the second wheel route last week was put in the only place where his guy could get it. When you sit in the endzone you see a lot of the way the plays develop and a similar view will tell you a lot of his throws are being seemingly overthrown because of people Cam is throwing over or around.

I'm pretty sure its been talked about, but Cam needs to learn to throw the ball with more touch.  It would give him more room for error, and give his receivers a much better chance of making a play.  He throws the ball so hard that its got be almost a perfect pass to be completed.  I cant remember if that was the case with this particular throw, but I think we struggle to complete more deep balls because of this.

I give Cam a hard time and it's not always his fault at all. But I've just come to expect that a QB in his fourth year would have finally gotten his footwork down and could hit wide open receivers. Cam could be great but he's wildly inconsistent. Tomorrow night he needs to show up and be perfect for us to win that game.

You seem like you watch more football than just Panthers games am I right? I see QB's like Rivers, Brees and Manning miss guys all the time. If you were to over analyze and put anyone of those guys under a magnifying glass they'd be far from "perfect" too. No QB is perfect and the difference between a lot of these QB's are the players they have around them. That Nelson, Cobb and Rodgers relationship is a two way street in GB, those guys help him out just as much as Rodgers helps them.

For the first time in Cam's career with Carolina he has a running game that doesn't involve him. Russell Wilson has had the luxury of handing it off to Marshawn Lynch since stepping foot into the NFL. Hell, even Rodgers has Lacy who's basically a mini Marshawn at this point. Since Stewart's emergence we're 4-0 with Cam. In my opinion Cam gets the most out of the weapons he has and that's all you can ask for.

Counterpoint:  Cam should have seen KB and Sherman fighting and found a different receiver.

 

Not saying I agree with that, but there's the counter argument that the critics point out.  Watching some playoff ball this weekend, I saw lots of times for every QB where these little things happen.  More often than not, the pass gets missed.  Maybe 20% of the time, the play is made, that QB looks like a great QB the receiver looks like a stud, and everyone goes on their way.

 

Cam is easy to point a finger at because he is the face of the Panthers.  He's had issues in the past that have been very well publicized.  He also has been a real media target since he came into the league for what he says and how he dresses.  Just wait until Manziel starts really playing next year, then we aught to hear a lot less about Cam criticism.

 

Jeremy's analysis and point is spot on.  But, the QB is going to get the blame for the overthrow 99% of the time....no matter who they are.  It just goes along with the territory....they usually get too much credit when things go well and too much blame where things don't.

Jus want to be clear though your point may be correct. This may have been stated already but the Qb is the leader of the offense, cam is alway the one who should shoulder the blame. It doesnt matter if it was or wasnt his fault, my point being cam accepting fault, (which he does and was the first thing he had to learn when he came in the NFL)is the classy thing to do. It takes so much pressure off other positions and just allows them to play ball.
