A lot of people talk about Cam and his backfoot

It's not his backfoot. It's actually lack of using his feet and relying mostly on his arm. Not stepping into his throws. This is really all on coaching cause Cam practices that way and do the same exact thing in practice.

This is Cam off his backfoot. See how he's falling back. He did this once

This is Cam real problem. All arm. Feet barely moving, not set to follow through

I use Manning as an example. Feet stay moving and not just bending of the knees

Same play as Peyton, fake handoff. Feet not moving at all, just slinging the ball

Same play. Feet moving, stepped into throw

Here. Feet moving, follow through

Who is stupid enough to believe that The coaches don't tell Newton he is throwing off his back foot or using too much arm on his throws? I am sure when they watch film after games and practice it comes up all the time. If a player keeps doing something you can believe it is a player problem not a coaching one. I suspect that when Newton is in practice he doesn't have someone in his face all day such that it is often hard to replicate game situations. The fact he shows good mechanics sometimes and bad ones at other times suggests he knows what to do (which is the coaching part) but doesn't always do it.

I think it's mostly a symptom of him always being ready to run if need be.  QBs that know they will never take off can use their legs differently than if they think there's a chance they'll take off and sprint.  Obviously you're going to set your feet differently taking off on a sprint than throwing.  I think Cam's "streakiness" with his feet is just him setting his feet right on plays he knows he's going to throw it with very little chance of taking off with the ball (e.g. quick slants or plays where he's going to throw it whether the target is technically open or not) and he mostly uses arm on plays where there's a greater chance of him having to take off with it (e.g. long developing plays where he's not sure someone's going to get open).

That first fake handoff to KB gif, his form is like that in practice. You can go watch the vids on Panthers.com of him doing the exact same thing. That's coaching. Find me another QB doing that same exact thing on slant patterns

I like your argument. I'm not sure if you're correct (I think you are) but I like the way you presented your stance.

It's an interesting point, all the same.

2 of those passes looked catchable.

I've seen Cam complete passes off of his backfoot and I've seen the guys drop balls he's stepped into.

This reminds me of how in golf and baseball... how important the hips to your swing, and even when pitching.

I'm sure they coached him on it this week. Its been an issue since he got here... don't think its going anywhere anytime soon.

What I would say that Cam DOES need to stop throwing falling back and off his back foot.

HOWEVER, I do understand why he feels the need to speed things up.

The time that he did try to take his time and set his feet in the 4th, he got blindsided and a fumble occurred.

Do we really need this thread two days before a big game? I mean jesus, save this stuff for the offseason if Cam doesn't get us to the next round. This kind of thread is debbie downer poo.

Idk how. I specifically posted him doing the right things for a reason. That should get your broken spirits up. Everybody knew Cam coming out of college he was super raw given college experience and system and people talking like 4 years is a long time when it's definitely not at all.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
