Official Panthers/Ravens Huddle Tailgate Thread

At long last it is time to begin the tailgating season. This Saturday night (August 29th) in downtown Charlotte the Carolina Panthers take on the Baltimore Ravens in the most important preseason game. The starters will play into the third quarter and will give fans their longest look of them in a prequel to the start of the season.

As it has been for the past 4 years running, our Official Huddle Tailgate is FREE for any and all that show up. This week's fare includes hand pattied cheeseburgers and Nathan's hotdogs with all the trim free of charge. There will be lots of homegrown veggies there like lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumbers, pickles, etc. For the hot dogs there will be chili and slaw as well as onions, jalepenos, etc. Here's the rest of the details:

1. Where? Our Free Huddle Tailgate is at a parking lot that borders Church St, Poplar, and 3rd St. downtown. The lot is right across the street from Picassos's downtown. Specifically in that lot our tailgate is closest to the corner of Poplar and 3rd. right on the sidewalk. We have 3 tents and lots of Carolinahuddle.com banners to help you locate us.

2. When? This week we will start at 4 pm.

3. What will be there? Lots. We have plenty of shade and tents for cover from shade or rain. We provide for free all the food (this week burgers, hot dogs, all the trim with condiments, slaw chili, chips, pickles, tomatos, lettuce, onions, mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc). Our burgers this week are freshly pattied, and the hot dogs are kosher nathan's high end hot dogs. The slaw is homemade and the tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, peppers, are picked fresh out of a garden. These will be high quality ingredients. Free drinks included: Cokes, Diet cokes, Sundrops, Diet Sundrops, and waters.

4. How much? If you park in that lot it's about $25 give or take $5. You DO NOT HAVE TO PARK THERE TO PARTY WITH US! There are many lots a few blocks back that are MUCH cheaper, even down to $5. Take advantage of that or take the train into town for a few bucks. To tailgate please donate as much as you can til it hurts. This week we do not have a sponsor so we will ask for donations and take out what is needed to cover the cost and the rest goes towards Toys for Tots. Please be generous and consider how convenient our tailgate makes things for you and how much you save vs. going into the game and buying all this or trying to do it yourself.

5. Who is there? Most of the people there are people on this website. All of us were new at one time or another. Please don't be shy if you've never been here before. We make friends easily. We give our food and non-alcoholic drinks away for free to ALL.

6. Is this tailgate kid friendly? We do not police adult behavior before football games. We do not take responsibility for what kids may see or hear during the tailgate. Generally there are few children there and most adults mind their manners around them, but you never know what they may be exposed to during their time there so use your own judgment.

7. Are opposing fans ok? Yes, we are one of the only tailgates out there that host any and all fans and give their food and drink away for FREE!

Most important please bring your own drinks if you want alcohol. The Official Huddle Tailgate does not in any fashion provide alcohol as part of its tailgate. We do not accept responsibility for anyone's actions as a result of what they consume at a tailgate.

4pm early???? That is like starting at 9am on a normal Sunday game right? I was expecting a 1pm start time. Guess baby steps for the first one might be smart. :D (and it is pre-season)

Agreed...I will be consuming beverages long before the 4 o'clock hour.

Please note that all of what Andy said is true.. EVERYTHING IS FREE BUT....

We would LOVE to have donations for the yearly Toys For Tots bicycle drive, so even though we dont charge.. bring some money for the kids, you can do what i have been doing, I park and ride the Light rail in, for $3 .. save the $25 parking and make sure i put in what i would have had to pay for parking :) that way they get my money and not the greedy parking lots :)

One other parking tip. Light Rail is your friend.

Get off at 3rd st/Convention Center. Walk up 3rd or 4th....BAM Huddle Tailgate.

Word of caution for night or big games. If you ride the light rail back. Try to catch it down near 3rd or the Arena so you can get a spot. Otherwise there might be a train or 3 you MISS.

This is usually for fans who stay the entire game. I had to walk from Moorhead down to 3rd just to catch a train a few times.

But it adds to the random flavor so word to the wise.

If you ride the rail and bring beverages to drink, one good tip is to buy a disposable (styrofoam) cooler. That way, you can consume your beverages and then throw away the cooler.

Otherwise, you will have to sweet-talk one of the Huddlers that drove into letting you store your cooler in their car, truck, or RV.

Mush and Rhino saved my butt on this a couple of times.
