I can see merit to both sides. One the one hand, if we go on offense first, their fans will still be extremely jacked from the pre-game and all that nonsense. But marching the ball down the field in no-huddle can quickly quiet that.

 

On the other hand, their fans will be pretty amped up if they are on offense too. That could make their boys a bit jittery and maybe get a false start penalty or something. Hopefully get a three and out or force a turnover.

 

I always opt for going on defense first in big games. Being a little jittery on defense is usually better than being a little jittery on offense.

Their crowd will be hyped at the beginning of the game. May be best to send the defense out and (hopefully) get a stop to lower their spirits.
