Serious question...really.

So I was watching Back to the Future, and something occurred to me. Other than the clear violations of time travel protocol, I think the main problem is not with time, but with location.

The earth is moving around the sun at about 67000 mph. The entire solar system is moving as well as the milky way galaxy. So nothing would be in the same place and when Marty travels through time, he would materialize in the middle of space. Not a good idea if you are travelling in a delorean.

Just something I noticed and wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts on the matter. Maybe I am missing something.

There are a thousand other problems that we would have to solve before worrying about location. For example how do you bend spacetime and where do you get the massive energy that it would require. Some have suggested that you would have to link on to a star to get the necessary horsepower.

But as to your question physicists don't really know how this would work. Is time travel the type of thing where you jump through a hole bypassing all moments in between your start and your destination. Or is it the type of thing where you very very quickly move through time briefly touching all the in between moments - which would create its own problems.

I was just thinking about this movie today. That stupid All State radio ad came on, where the guy crashed into the only pine tree in Lone Pine, CA.

Did you ever notice that in 1985, before any time travel had taken place, the name of the mall was Twin Pines mall? Then when Marty traveled back to 1955, he crashed into a small pine tree. When he returned, the name of the mall was Lone Pine mall.

Mine blown.

As the perceiver of your own reality, time is a stationary variable anyways. You are constantly living in that exact moment.

Despite the fact that you are moving at an amazing rate relative to the things surrounding you in the universe, you can sit and perceive yourself as being still as time continues to move.

Time and motion are independent variables. You are in constant motion, and time is just your concept of all that motion relative to the other processes you are experiencing.

If you were able to travel time to when you wanted to end up, it'd be pretty certain you would be able to end up where you wanted to end up.

Huh? Light and matter are both known to bend spacetime.

Can someone explain The Time Machine?

Really great book by HG Wells back in the 1890s I think.  Had to read it in college.  It is an amazing read, and quite short, like 90 pages or so but it really set the table for a lot of future science fiction.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
