Serious question...really.

So I was watching Back to the Future, and something occurred to me. Other than the clear violations of time travel protocol, I think the main problem is not with time, but with location.

The earth is moving around the sun at about 67000 mph. The entire solar system is moving as well as the milky way galaxy. So nothing would be in the same place and when Marty travels through time, he would materialize in the middle of space. Not a good idea if you are travelling in a delorean.

Just something I noticed and wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts on the matter. Maybe I am missing something.

That does answer some questions, but in my example (BTTF), it is never addressed.

That's what the Flux Capacitor is for, spacetime displacement.

Everyone knows that a DeLorean is capable of FTL speeds so all of the rest of that stapled on crap is what manages his position in the universe.

I was just thinking about this movie today. That stupid All State radio ad came on, where the guy crashed into the only pine tree in Lone Pine, CA.

Did you ever notice that in 1985, before any time travel had taken place, the name of the mall was Twin Pines mall? Then when Marty traveled back to 1955, he crashed into a small pine tree. When he returned, the name of the mall was Lone Pine mall.
