One thing that helps is Wilson is consistently accurate. That's my one real beef with Cam and what I think set not only them, but all QB's apart.

Wilson consistantly plays well outside the pocket

Which is why he runs out of the pocket even when there really isn't pressure. I think he actually does what most pundits bash young QBs for doing.....they just ignore it BC good things have happened outside.

I am not impressed with Wilson as a pocket passer. At all. The guy outside the pocket is a nightmare

Are you trying to be literal? Because, no, it's not accurate. He didn't throw off of his back foot the whole game. I saw pretty well from my seat, and this video says he didn't either.

https://screen.yahoo.com/nfl-highlights/wild-card-carolina-panthers-quarterback-012636623.html

I'm not saying he didn't throw off of his back foot during the game, but to say he did it the whole game is asinine.

He did it enough for PK to ask Rivera about it specifically and for Ron to call that film a teaching tape for Cam. PK started out coaching QBs.

That video is a highlite of the game. The back foot throws are incompletions and are not shown

I can't find the article right now that details it, but Russell Wilson has actually posted a better QB rating from WITHIN the pocket than from outside of it.

(A certain amount of the lower rating outside of the pocket may be from throw-aways though - I believe that he leads the league in the category)

stats sometimes lie....eyeball test for me on some things are best.

You don't think he bails early often? You don't think he is at his best outside?

I do think nationally he is still on that honeymoon phase where people overlook things he doesn't do great and gets extra hype bc of the great team success around him. Don't get me wrong dude is legit

Yeah he sometimes bails on the pocket when he could step up into the pocket....but our OL doesn't Pass Protect particularly well, and he has had a lot of success when bailing on the pocket and "making something out of nothing" so I'm okay with it. :)

As far as your latter comment - that might seem fair to someone who doesn't watch him often, but as someone who DOES watch him all of the time...I can honestly say that I think people are too quick to try and categorize him and want to pick at perceived inadequacies or try to find reasons to knock him down (He plays behind a great defense and running game) when the reality of it is that I honestly that part of what makes him great is that he pretty much does all the things you need a QB to do and does them very well.   He may not be "Elite" in all of those categories....but I think he's very well rounded.

I also don't think he gets enough credit for the times when he absolutely takes over a game....that's part of the reason that the Hawks haven't lost a game by more than 9 points since he arrived.....He ALWAYS finds a way to put the team in a position to win...generally when we have lost during that time frame, it has been other parts of the team that has let us down (dropped passes on offense or the defense allowing the other team to drive down the field for a go-ahead score)

He doesn't throw nearly as much as some of the other QBs in the league thus less chance of turnovers and incompletions. His knack for getting out of the pocket and wanting to scramble out of the pocket also gives him less opportunities to throw inside the pocket. Wilson is good, no denying that. But he is not a great pocket passer.

What? Wilson is a very good pocket passer. He's poised, patient and accurate.

Wilson has a career 63% completion percentage with nearly a 3:1 TD:INT.

A huge chunk of that production isn't as a pocket passer.

Seahawks won't beat us unless he gets outside as a passer and uses his legs some too

That of course implies special teams doesn't give it away.....which they easily could

I would not call Wilson patient in the pocket. Not from what we have seen over his career.

Ever since we changed up our starting secondary in our second game against the Saints, the Panthers' defense has been off the chain.  I don't believe we gave up a deep pass down the field since that time. (I know the Browns were able to get a long touchdown pass, but that was off a quick slant if memory serves me correctly)  So who gives up less passing yards in our game this Saturday?  Legion of Boom, or the Legion of Whom?  For those who aren't familiar, of course the Legion of Whom is a name Jon Gruden gave to the Panther's secondary during our MNF game against the Patriots last year if I'm not mistaken.

Jon's a barrel full of laughs...

Wilson is STILL trying to wipe the Gruden drool off from his QB School interview.

But truth be told the LOB is for real.  There was/is a good reason that Aaron Rodgers didn't throw a single pass Sherman's way in our season opener up here at the CLink.  GB lost that one 36-16.

Kam (Bam-Bam) Chancellor is really what your receivers heads need to be on a swivel for.  That dude is a fo sho mercenery.  It's sick how hard he hits dudes.

What he did in last years Super Bowl was what turned the tide in the first qtr when he locked on like a shoulder launch missle to a Bronco receiver an a crossing route and broke his ribs.  Ouch...  !!

If I was a Panther WO I would call in sick on Saturday.  Seriously people... Ya...I know..the Seahawks put out this video about how to tackle... blah...blah..blah..

It's not how they tackle...It's how they hit.

That week 1 GB game was a joke. Yeah, Sherman is the best.....but that was a horrible coaching decision by GB to literally throw to one side of the field. Sherman isn't THAT good. Sherman isn't that good a team like Carolina should consider it....and definately not an elite pass attack like GB.

Also Carolina has lead every game the last 3 years late against Seattle. Let's cool it with the OMG LOB is so scary and hits so hard....we both know Carolina isn't intimidated. More mad the Hawks keep squeaking out wins Carolina has

I think a lot of Wilson's struggles in the pocket are a direct result of his porous offensive line.  The Seahawks OL excels in run blocking, but pass blocking can be an unmitigated disaster at times.  I think Wilson has it programmed in his head now to run outside the pocket when it starts to go badly.  At Wisconsin, he was a deadly passer from the pocket, but he had a ton of protection too.

It's a big fear from Seahawk fans.. that our line is going to turn Russ into Marc Bulger, David Carr, etc.   Of course.. Bulger and Carr didn't have nearly as much mobility as Wilson.. but in terms of just happy feet.

Yep...nothing says "taking over a game" like 2 TD's and 5 ints in his last 6 home games.

Seahawks are 80% defense and 20% offense.

Any win on the road against a team with a full compliment of the opponents starters is a good win.

Beating AZ on the other hand in your own house isn't much to shout about.  The poor team doesn't even have a QB.  I feel sorry for those guys.  Talk about snake bit.

Cam will probably have a decent first half/qtr.  Then the flood gates of forced decisions and errant throws and GFB trying Sherman's territory will pile up into a mountain of despair.

Wilson ....on the other hand...  is a surgeon.  He never gets to high...never too low..  He will test the Panther defense with the only true implementation of the read/option in the NFL.

The thing to watch is how open our receivers will get when Wilson runs around in circles a couple of times to wear out your spying LBs and Linemen and your DBs start thinking run!!!  That's when you look up and one of your corner's has dropped his assignment and Baldwin or another Seahawk receiver or WORSE!!! Lynch has snuck into the vacant area 20 yards down field and YIKES!!!  Wilson flips him the rock..  The look on a DB's face with Lynch barreling down on him is priceless.
