Carolina to travel to Seattle 48 hrs in advance

The Panthers won’t be traveling to Seattle with the same routine as the last time Carolina played there in the playoffs.

In January 2006, the Panthers went cross-country on Saturday, one day before the NFC Championship Game. Then-coach John Fox’s decision to leave for the West Coast one day before the game didn’t sit well with the players.

“No, it didn’t,” said linebacker Thomas Davis, who was a rookie safety that season. “We’ve learned a lot from that day. We travel now to the West Coast two days before instead of a day before because your body’s not going to feel as good as it possibly can after coming off a long flight like that the day before. We understand that now and we’ll be much better prepared this go around.”

The Panthers plan to get to Seattle on Thursday night, nearly 48 hours before Saturday’s kickoff.

This a very smart idea.  Usually west coast to east coast is worse, but a 3 hour time change is always hard to adjust to no matter what.

Initially I was concerned about the night game because we have played like poo in all of our night games this year. If we get adjusted to the time-zone change, we will be playing at 5:30, only an our off from last weeks game.

P.S.  Sorry you don't ever see too many posts from me.  I read all the topics everyday but for some reason I can't get logged in to my Android App no matter how hard I try!  I am rarely in front of my computer :(

For a late night game, East Coast to West Coast is actually the worse direction. Leaving early should help neutralize that though, so I'm glad they're doing it.

I hate this whole travel nonsense.  They're not going by house and buggy to Seattle.  They're going on a chartered team owned jet.  I don't think traveling to the west coast is that big an ordeal that it's made out to be.

There's a big difference between waking up with a BJ from your wife/gf in your own bed in your own house, eating a homeade breakfast in your own kitchen, driving 15 minutes to the stadium you've played more games than you can count in your own car.....over flying 5-7 hours to the other side of the country, riding in a bus full of a bunch of sweaty, smelly football players fresh off an exhausting flight, sleeping in a hotel room with one of your teammates, eating the hotel's continental breakfast, adjusting to a 3 hour time difference, playing in a stadium known for being one of the loudest in pro sports, and on an unfamiliar field that only a handful of current Panthers have ever played in.  Needless to say the Panthers had a hard time beating the Seahawks at home, and now they face them in their house in the playoffs.

I think we'll win.
